About The Position

Virginia Natural Gas is seeking career-motivated individuals to join its Field Operations team. The General Technician is an entry-level developmental role with opportunities for growth and advancement in the natural gas industry. The work is predominantly outdoors and takes place in all weather conditions. Employees must be willing to travel (approximately 5% of the time), drive safely, work extended hours, and wear company-provided personal protective equipment. This is a bargaining unit position represented by IBEW Local 50 and is a Department of Transportation-covered classification subject to random drug and alcohol screening. The position is based at a Virginia Natural Gas office in Chesapeake or Newport News, Virginia. Transitioning military personnel are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• No previous experience is required; the job is entry level.
• Must pass the DOT drug test.
• Must be operator qualified in accordance with the Company Plan.
• Must have a valid Virginia state driver's license.
• Must be able and willing to travel, including approximately 5% travel.
• Must be able to drive safely, work extended hours, and wear company-provided personal protective equipment.
• Must be physically able to stoop, bend, crawl, walk, climb ladders, and lift weights in excess of 75 pounds.
• Must have a keen sense of smell, hearing, vision, and color identification.
• Must be able to work on all types of terrain and in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently work assigned routes to complete customer and compliance orders in a timely manner and in accordance with company policies, procedures, and operator qualification procedures.
• Follow safety requirements and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance.
• Perform soft orders, including changes of account, deactivations, shutoffs for nonpayment, three-year inspections, and general inspections.
• Perform minor maintenance on meter sets, including installing splash guards and cleaning and painting meters and piping.
• Perform meter observations and meter reads.
