About The Position

This position is responsible for the operation of a department, performing additional job-related responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or necessary. The role involves demonstrating, promoting, and supporting compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity, utilizing the Open Door Policy, and assisting management with correcting ethical and compliance issues. The technician must comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and guidelines by performing work according to practices and procedures outlined in the Walmart Exterior Service guidance, safety policy, and environmental guidelines. Cost control is managed by conducting price comparisons of parts, equipment, and travel-related costs, and submitting warranty claims. The role requires completing and submitting forms to Regional Managers and Home Office associates. Leading third-party providers involves fostering a climate for professional growth and development, coaching, conducting performance evaluations, and developing and directing quality assurance inspections. Customer service is provided by troubleshooting and communicating with facility users to ensure meeting of event needs, assessing and resolving customer problems and complaints, and ensuring a clean, safe, and healthy work environment for associates. Evaluation of current and future replacement needs (e.g., mulch, rock, trees, shrubs, sod replacement) and implementation of upgrades to convert the facility into a sustainable unit are key. Exploring potential improvements to lower operating costs, coordinating with Home Office support to standardize equipment and reduce on-hand stock, and sourcing tool and equipment purchases to perform repairs are also part of the role. Ensuring completed work meets quality and safety requirements and using heavy machinery are essential. Budget preparation and execution involve developing cost estimates on requested and planned projects, approving purchases of parts, materials, equipment, and supplies, and providing technical assistance and consultation to facilitate purchases. Verification of purchase receipt and acceptance is required. Gathering capital expenditures lists and developing scopes of work to update existing assets in assigned facilities, including landscaping, snow events, case cleaning, and shopping cart PM and service, are also responsibilities. Performing seasonal exterior maintenance activities, including snow and ice management, by operating snow removal equipment, applying de-icing materials, clearing walkways, drives, and exterior areas, and supporting winter preparedness and response activities to maintain safe facility conditions are crucial. Vehicle maintenance includes ensuring vehicles are in good mechanical and cleanliness condition, coordinating and taking vehicles for required maintenance, arranging alternate driving support, and safely operating motor vehicles with all required documents. Checking fuel and water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights are daily tasks. Maintenance invoices must be submitted for payment, and the coverage and validity of vehicle insurance must be verified. The technician must wear the company uniform and badge according to company policies and procedures. Operation, inspection, and maneuvering of heavy machinery and powered equipment in accordance with training, certification requirements, and safety procedures are required, including performing pre-operation safety checks and post-operation inspections. Identifying unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or potential hazards and taking appropriate corrective action or escalating as required is critical. When not in use, vehicles must be properly locked, keys stored per protocol, and vehicles made available for inspection or reassignment. Assigned work vehicles must be parked at the designated Walmart parking location(s). The role also involves complying with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity, completing work assignments and priorities, and demonstrating respect for individuals by embracing differences, creating a workplace where associates feel seen, supported, and connected, and strengthening the team by helping, developing, and mentoring others. Requirements

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license.
  • No convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI, or reckless driving involving alcohol or drugs within the last three (3) years.
  • No more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years, if driving a commercial motor vehicle.
  • No serious traffic violations (as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) in the last three (3) years, if operating a commercial motor vehicle.
  • No preventable accidents (as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) in the last three (3) years, if operating a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Successful completion of a DOT physical and medical certification pre-hire.
  • As required by section 391.11(b)(2) of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, ability to read and speak in the English language.
  • 2 years’ experience in the landscaping/gardening industry

Nice To Haves

  • Able to successfully complete a DOT physical and secure medical certification during pre-hire contingency and be able to maintain a minimum of a 90 day Medical Examiner’s Certification (MEC) card
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Maintenance, Construction Management, or related area.
  • Experience in third-party management.
  • Experience using intermediate level functionality of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Proficient in speaking and understanding Spanish.
