About The Position

Oerlikon is seeking a Coating Technician for its Wixom, Michigan facility. The technician sets up and monitors coating machines, prepares coating systems, loads and unloads chambers, changes magnetic systems, and enters process parameters into operator screens. The role also involves pretreating customer products using standardized methods and assembling chamber loads according to customer specifications. The technician makes processing decisions, initiates coating processes, and disassembles and reconfigures chambers for subsequent loads. The role includes operating and maintaining coating equipment, performing daily changeover maintenance, optimizing equipment use, receiving and inspecting customer products, establishing process sequences, and inspecting finished products. The technician follows procedures and customer work instructions, supports quality assurance, maintains equipment records, helps train and cross-train employees, and works with colleagues to address quality concerns. The position requires a customer-friendly approach and willingness to perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED, or equivalent experience.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, creativity, and a high-energy approach.
Proficiency in ordering supplies via the internet.
Experience with MS Office.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Positive attitude and willingness to work overtime when required.
Ability to lift, stack, push, pull, and/or move items weighing up to 44 pounds.
Must meet U.S. Government technology export regulation eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

2–4 years of experience in HVAC, carpentry, automotive or industrial equipment repair, or construction.
Knowledge of cutting tools, such as drills.
Previous experience with coating techniques, blasting, or plating.

Responsibilities

Set up and monitor coating machines, including preparing the coating system, loading and unloading chambers, changing magnetic systems, and entering process parameters.
Pretreat customer products using standardized methods and assemble chamber loads according to customer specifications.
Make processing decisions, initiate coating processes, and disassemble and reconfigure chambers for subsequent loads.
Perform daily changeover maintenance of pre- and post-treatment equipment.
Optimize daily use of production equipment and minimize downtime through preventative maintenance.
Follow standard procedures and interpret customer work instructions.
Work with the Quality Coordinator and Center Manager to identify and address quality concerns.
Provide training and assistance to employees on equipment operation and maintenance.
Learn new skills and cross-train into various departments.
Operate and maintain coating equipment according to specifications.
Learn fixturing and defixturing techniques.
Maintain and update equipment records.
Assist with quality assurance and other technical matters as required.
Interact with customers and coworkers in a customer-friendly manner.
Receive and inspect customer products for processing.
Establish product process sequences and inspect finished products.
Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Management.
