About The Position

Planet Technologies, the Nation’s leading Microsoft services provider to the public sector, is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our growing team as Technical Writer. In this role, you will be supporting impactful projects that make a difference for our country. This Technical Writer will lead the planning, research, production, and delivery of content across multiple mediums to ensure brand consistency and support strategic planning. This position ensures communications are aligned with appropriate guideline and standards as well as ensures adherence to Section508 and plain language standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or English with five (5) years of experience in a similar position with a large Federal organization.
• Communications strategy and execution experience.
• Process development and improvement experience.
• Experience designing and implementing written and visual content on SharePoint web pages.
• Experience producing editorial, promotional, and/or documentary communications.
• Familiarity with customer experience and human-centered design methodologies.
• Experience performing user research and synthesis.
• Ability to work onsite in DC five days a week, and hold an ongoing Active Top Secret Clearance

Responsibilities

• Generates creative communications ideas around Information Technology issues across divisions within this area of the Federal organization
• Leads the planning, research, production, and delivery of content across multiple mediums, including websites and email.
• Plans and leads research activities to gather story content.
• Assists in the creation of communications materials, promotional materials, and leadership briefs that communicate the impact of communications initiatives.
• Contributes to the development of a comprehensive communications and content strategy.
• Ensures adherence to Section 508 and plain language standards, ensure brand consistency and supports strategic planning for the organization, adheres to established branding and ensures consistency in terminology, tone, formatting, and alignment with existing guidelines
• Gathers input from stakeholders, program managers, and subject matter experts.
• Drafts internal communications such as employee emails, newsletter stories, and intranet articles.
• Writes clear, concise, and structured content using plain language while adhering to established templates and compliance standards.
• Interprets technical input and translates it into accessible, nontechnical language, as necessary.
• Liaises with executives to translate communications requirements into effective messaging campaigns.
• Tracks changes to maintain content in collaborative environments and manages multiple document versions using SharePoint.
• Drafts, reviews, and publishes documents using Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
• Manages communications from initial concept through implementation, ensuring alignment with project goals and audience needs.
• Develops one-page slick sheets, hallway monitors, presentations, and more.
