Requirements

  • BA/BS in Technical Communication, science, technology or related field with 3 years of experience or at least 10 years experience in Technical Publication/Technical Communication.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing skills to create and manipulate new and existing documentation.
  • Skilled in the use of DITA – XML and content management system.
  • Skilled in the use of translation management systems.
  • Ability to disassemble and reassemble instruments to create installation and maintenance information.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to maintain and adapt XSL-FO files is a plus.
  • Ability of illustrating complex technical concepts in easy-to-use illustrations is a plus.
  • Experience in the use of Solid Works, Corel Designer, Adobe Illustrator is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Creates structured content to produce end-user installation, operation and maintenance manuals, user instructions, quick start/quick reference guides, analytical procedures and online help.
  • Applies reuse strategies and modular writing design to single-source content to our customers as different media (web, print).
  • Develops content that can be delivered globally and into 32+ languages.
  • Has a general understanding and continued learning of how to develop information for localization which includes using Simplified Technical English rules and guidelines, Global Visual Design Standards and Localization Best Practices.
  • Manages complete translation process with external vendors from scoping to delivering translated documents.
  • Obtains, defines, and interprets information and works directly with cross-functional, global product development teams (Product Mgmt, Project Mgmt, R&D, etc.) and customer feedback to assist in the development of end-user documentation packages.
  • Information is obtained by product knowledge transfer, interviews, usability testing, daily management meetings and email/phone communication.
  • Recognizes and demonstrates improvements to the quality of documentation based on feedback from internal and external customers by soliciting feedback and testing documentation for usability, accuracy and validity.
  • Updates unstructured FrameMaker legacy documentation and converts unstructured books to structured topics and maps.
  • Manages own daily work, project assignments and on-time delivery of output deliverables.
  • Prepares documentation for final production (print, online, and translation management) and visually inspecting and proofing final delivery PDF files before and after delivery to print vendor or data duplicator.
