About The Position

Emerging Tech is seeking a Technical Writer – Journeyman to support a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program in partnership with Accenture Federal Services. This role is ideal for a technical writer with experience supporting VA EHRM, Oracle Health, Cerner, healthcare IT, or other complex federal technology programs. The Technical Writer will work closely with technical teams, healthcare IT professionals, engineers, project managers, and subject matter experts to develop clear, accurate, and professional documentation supporting EHR modernization and enterprise healthcare technology initiatives. The ideal candidate understands how to take complex technical and healthcare IT information and turn it into documentation that is clear, organized, and useful to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Information Technology, Business, Healthcare IT, or a related field.
  • 3–5+ years of professional technical writing experience.
  • Experience supporting complex IT, healthcare IT, or federal technology programs.
  • Strong technical writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills.
  • Ability to understand complex technical concepts and translate them into clear documentation.
  • Experience working directly with technical subject matter experts.
  • Strong Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint skills.
  • Experience with document management and version control.
  • Ability to manage multiple documentation efforts and competing deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies and documentation gaps.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience supporting the VA EHRM program.
  • Experience with Oracle Health or Cerner.
  • Experience supporting Accenture Federal Services or another EHRM prime/subcontractor environment.
  • Experience documenting EHR systems, healthcare applications, interfaces, workflows, or integrations.
  • Familiarity with VA healthcare technology, VHA, VA OIT, EHRM, or related VA programs.
  • Experience documenting HL7 interfaces, healthcare integrations, clinical workflows, or enterprise EHR environments.
  • Experience supporting software implementation, testing, deployment, or release management.
  • Federal healthcare or government contracting experience.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, SharePoint, Confluence, Jira, or similar documentation and collaboration platforms.
  • Experience with Visio or other diagramming tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, SDLC, or systems engineering methodologies.
  • Experience developing SOPs, system documentation, technical procedures, implementation plans, user guides, or operational documentation.
  • Experience supporting highly regulated healthcare or federal environments.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation supporting VA EHRM and Oracle Health/Cerner environments.
  • Work closely with engineers, developers, healthcare IT specialists, project managers, and subject matter experts to gather and validate technical information.
  • Translate complex EHR, healthcare IT, infrastructure, and systems information into clear and easy-to-understand documentation.
  • Develop and maintain technical manuals, SOPs, user guides, process documentation, system documentation, implementation materials, and program deliverables.
  • Support documentation related to Oracle Health/Cerner applications, EHR integrations, interfaces, workflows, systems, and technical processes.
  • Review existing VA EHRM documentation and identify areas requiring updates, clarification, or additional detail.
  • Research technical and healthcare IT topics and consolidate information from multiple sources into accurate documentation.
  • Develop documentation supporting system implementation, testing, deployment, release management, operations, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Work with SMEs to document technical processes, system functionality, workflows, requirements, and operational procedures.
  • Support development of presentations, briefings, white papers, reports, and executive-level documentation.
  • Maintain document version control, templates, review cycles, approvals, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Ensure documentation is consistent with federal customer requirements, program standards, and established documentation practices.
