  • 3+ years of relevant technical writing, engineering documentation, product documentation, or closely related experience.
  • Ability to understand engineering concepts and explain them in clear, concise language for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, schematics, workflows, test information, or engineering source material.
  • Experience with documentation tools, content management systems, publishing software, and collaborative review workflows.
  • Strong command of English grammar, usage, structure, editing, and information organization.
  • Strong attention to technical detail, accuracy, consistency, traceability, and version control.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and independently identify missing, ambiguous, or conflicting technical information.

Nice To Haves

  • English minor, technical communication minor, professional writing concentration, or equivalent demonstrated coursework and writing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Engineering experience or significant hands-on exposure to robotics, industrial automation, material handling, manufacturing, software, hardware, or related technologies.
  • Experience creating operator, maintenance, system integration, API, developer, troubleshooting, or safety-related documentation.
  • Experience with structured content, information architecture, taxonomy, metadata, documentation governance, or knowledge management practices.
  • Familiarity with engineering development lifecycles, change control, configuration management, validation, and release processes.
  • Ability to create or interpret technical illustrations, diagrams, process maps, and annotated equipment images.
  • Portfolio samples that demonstrate both technical depth and polished English-language communication.

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering fundamentals to understand product architecture, system behavior, equipment operation, maintenance needs, technical risks, and user workflows.
  • Translate complex engineering concepts, technical data, drawings, specifications, test results, and research findings into clear, concise, and accurate content.
  • Work directly with developers, engineers, and other technical staff to validate that documentation reflects current processes, product functionality, design intent, and safe equipment use.
  • Write and maintain user manuals, operator and maintenance manuals, troubleshooting content, how-to guides, integration guides, API and developer documentation, system instructions, and internal knowledge resources.
  • Determine effective structures and layouts for complex manuals and technical documentation based on audience, task, system complexity, and information hierarchy.
  • Interview subject matter experts, observe technical work, review source material, and ask precise follow-up questions to close information gaps.
  • Edit technical content for clarity, impact, flow, meaning, consistency, accuracy, grammar, terminology, and readability across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Create diagrams, annotated visuals, examples, and other explanatory content that improve understanding of engineering systems and procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate technical, terminology, safety, and content reviews occur and that approved updates are incorporated into published documentation.
  • Develop schedules and plans for documentation projects, manage review cycles, and deliver quality content on time.
  • Conduct usability reviews or validation activities to confirm that users can successfully follow the documentation.
