This list will be valid for 6 months from the date a candidate accepts the position. We currently have an opening for a Technical Writer II at Headquarters (Los Angeles). We’re looking for a Technical Writer II who is passionate about clarity and dedicated to bridging the gap between complex information and actionable content. Requirements

  • Strong command of English composition, grammatical structures, and the core theories of technical communication.
  • Proven track record in policy and manual development, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all organizational documentation.
  • Highly proficient in advanced word processing and diagramming software, with the ability to interpret and edit engineering drawings and schematics with guidance from subject matter experts.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, collaborate across departments, and utilize modern office technology to streamline workflows.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or three years in the MWD Technical Writer I classification.
  • Relevant Experience is defined as: Experience writing user manuals, standard operating procedures, safety manuals, or operating policies.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead documentation planning by analyzing customer needs, coordinating project timelines, and managing schedules to ensure mission-critical information is delivered on time.
  • Conduct in-depth research and interviews with subject matter experts to capture complex processes and technical information and translate them into clear, actionable content.
  • Develop a wide range of materials including operating policies, field and administrative manuals, technical reports, and instructional procedures and guides, ensuring everything meets rigorous regulatory and internal standards.
  • Create and edit flowcharts, photos, and diagrams, including technical schematics with guidance from subject matter experts to enhance document comprehension.
  • Perform meticulous document reviews for grammar and formatting, while managing the testing and publication of online resources.
  • Serve as a key contributor on project teams, applying technical expertise to cross-functional initiatives that support Metropolitan operations.
