About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Technical Support Specialist to provide second-level support for PC and peripheral connectivity devices. This role is responsible for the installation, relocation, and upgrading of computer systems and peripherals. The specialist will respond to troubleshooting calls, repair malfunctioning equipment, and serve as a departmental liaison. They will support complex client/server systems, work with IT staff to resolve issues reported by county employees, and diagnose connectivity problems. The position requires interaction with application software and operating systems to resolve intricate problems, maintaining accurate timesheets, and participating in emergency management activities as directed. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar science or engineering discipline, OR High School Diploma with 3 years relevant technical experience in addition to the experience requirement.
  • 1 year relevant technical experience.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong problem solving skills; Ability to evaluate a problem and determine an effective course of action.
  • Ability to manage several projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows operating systems and Mobile IOS.
  • Proactively stays informed of technological advances and trends in IT.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearances.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand, eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer, office, and telecom equipment; May require using a ladder at heights up to 20 feet off the ground.

  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, network cabling, wireless, and remote access methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, analyzes, and initiates resolutions as second level support for all PC and peripheral connectivity devices.
  • Responsible for installations, re-location, and upgrades of computer-based systems and computer peripherals.
  • Responds to troubleshooting calls and repairs malfunctioning equipment to assist employees as needed; serves as departmental liaison.
  • Support complex client/server systems maintaining minimal outages to end user computing.
  • Work with I.T. staff as appropriate to determine and resolve problems received from county employees.
  • Diagnoses connectivity problems; resolves or coordinates resolution of problems.
  • Interacts with application software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve intricate problems.
  • Arrives on time and accurately maintains timesheet in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
