About The Position

Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking an experienced circuit design engineer for its Frequency and Time Systems (FTS) development team. This role involves developing advanced network timing equipment, such as PTP grandmasters and NTP servers. The position requires expertise in analog and digital circuit design, including DDR memories, FPGAs, microprocessors, and MCUs. The engineer will be responsible for the entire product development lifecycle, from architecture and schematic design to PCB bring-up, validation, documentation, and sustaining support. Collaboration with hardware, software, marketing, test, and manufacturing teams is essential. Proficiency in using lab equipment like oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and GNSS simulators is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering/Computer Science; Masters degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of hands-on circuit design experience.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design concepts and principles.
  • Excellent knowledge of digital systems and computer architecture.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and documentation skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to drive tasks to completion.
  • Hands-on experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and related test equipment.
  • Experience with Altium and/or HyperLynx CAD tools.
  • Experience with high-speed PCB transmission line structures, signal integrity practices, and related design constraints.
  • Proof of either US citizenship, Permanent US residency or classification as a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b (a) (3) due to U.S. Export Controls Requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define new product features, requirements, and system-level tradeoffs.
  • Develop analog and digital circuit designs and create schematics using CAD tools.
  • Create detailed hardware design documentation and test plans.
  • Partner with PCB layout engineers on board layout, signal integrity, manufacturability, and design reviews.
  • Contribute to system architecture, component selection, and hardware implementation planning.
  • Enter and maintain design data in the Agile PLM system.
  • Support software and digital design engineers during board bring-up, driver development, and validation of board-level functions.
  • Drive hardware development from concept through finished product, including bring-up, validation, release, and sustaining support.
