About The Position

The Technical Specialist will work collaboratively with discipline professional staff, Core Lab managers and senior technologists to provide technical expertise to incorporate new methods and technologies into routine testing for the continued improvement of quality patient care. The Technical Specialist will provide oversight and take a lead role across all Core Labs for Accreditation, EQA and Quality Control. The Technical Specialist will participate in short and long term planning, setting goals and objectives which will contribute to the program plans for meeting the needs of clinical programs. The Technical Specialist will provide technical expertise in the Core Lab and will support staff and residents through education including new technologies/methods, liaise with various users of the service regarding results and methodologies, and assist with investigation and resolution of technical and clinical problems. The Technical Specialist will take a lead role in the procurement, validation and implementation of new instrumentation. The Technical Specialist will develop and maintain a personal education and professional development plan, utilizing resources such as literature reviews and professional associations. The Technical Specialist will contribute to the ongoing Quality Management of the Core Laboratory using a systems lens. This position will involve responsibilities at both HHS and STJ sites.

Requirements

  • Current registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
  • Related Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 5 years recent experience in Core Lab
  • Demonstrated ongoing commitment to personal professional development
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical development, research, problem-solving, regulatory requirements, and project management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, excellence in communication skills (written and verbal) interpersonal skills, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Quality Systems
  • Proficiency with Excel
