About The Position

KF Aerospace is seeking a Technical Specialist (Engineer) for the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) Program in Ottawa, ON. This role supports the Senior Design Engineer and Fleet Lead Engineers for the five FAcT aircraft fleets by researching and investigating technical problems raised by the AMO to find solutions. The Technical Specialist will specialize in a specific group of equipment/systems on the aircraft, such as Avionics, Structures, Propulsion/Engines, ALSE/Egress Systems/Survival Equipment, or Mechanical Systems. During the FAcT ramp-up phase, the role will also support aircraft acquisition, acceptance, initial certification, and release to service activities. KF Aerospace is a company with 50 years of experience, specializing in aircraft maintenance, modifications, air cargo, military pilot training, and aircraft leasing, with over 1,200 employees across Canada.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree or diploma in an applicable engineering discipline OR an AME diploma or RCAF aircraft technician training combined with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the aviation industry.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian aviation regulatory framework.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc).
  • Familiarity with aviation software and tools for data analysis.
  • Understanding of aviation risk management frameworks and methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Canadian military aviation framework is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Research technical issues through independent research or liaising with OEMs, other engineers, or other subject matter experts as required to develop mitigations and solutions.
  • Track technical and airworthiness issues through to resolution.
  • Assist in the review of data collected through R&M trend monitoring and/or aircraft HUMS systems to identify issues or trends that require investigation and resolution.
  • Consult with technical support at the aircraft/equipment OEMs.
  • Engage with aircraft operators from the RCAF or other operators to understand their experiences, resolve issues or highlight potential risks and issues to our fleets.
  • Review changes to technical publications and other service information from OEMs and regulatory authorities to determine applicability and determine required actions.
  • Create engineering direction to the AMOs resulting from these documents.
  • Assist in staffing of changes to the Technical and Airworthiness Authorities when their approval or concurrence is required.
  • Assist in the development of organizational processes and procedures.
  • Communicate and coordinate with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • During program ramp up: Support Project Management team for aircraft acquisition and acceptance.
  • During program ramp up: Support SDE and Fleet Lead Engineers in aircraft certification, airworthiness clearance, and test and evaluation.
  • During program ramp up: Support development of contract documents, plans and reports.
