This position is open to Alaskan Residents only. The Department of Education & Early Development is seeking a Technical Services Librarian to play a critical role in helping library users of all types to find and use information sources. This role is key to the effective operation of the Alaska State Library. Responsibilities include creating original catalog records in the Alaska Library Catalog (SirsiDynix Symphony) and OCLC for published and unique content, maintaining and updating bibliographic and holdings records in accordance with local, state, and national standards, sharing expertise in a cooperative environment by providing input and/or guidance related to all aspects of the library catalog and metadata, and providing, as part of a team, public service at the Alaska State Library’s front desk. The Alaska State Library collects, organizes, preserves, and makes accessible published and unique materials that document the history of Alaska for the benefit of all Alaskans. This position is crucial in making Alaska-related materials intellectually accessible to local and remote library users. As part of a library community that values cooperation and collegiality across library types, your expertise will have statewide impact through work on committees and sharing knowledge and skills with libraries and other cultural organizations in the state.
