About The Position

This position is open to Alaskan Residents only. The mission of the Division of Libraries, Archives, and Museums is to promote lifelong learning for all Alaskans through Alaska’s diverse history, art, and culture. The Alaska State Library works with the public and other libraries throughout Alaska to ensure access to the resources needed to fulfill that mission. Our staff is devoted to providing exceptional public service and highly specialized professional expertise. This position will serve a wide range of communities spread across the entire State of Alaska. This position will help rural communities and remote Alaskans access library services that would not otherwise be available to them. There is a huge opportunity to shape the way that these services are provided and this position will have a major role in creating the policies and procedures behind them. One day per week telework may be available.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college in library or information science, media services, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) professional references, whom we may contact by phone, are required. One (1) of these references must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.
  • A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial is okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications.
  • If education is completed in a foreign college or university, it may be used to meet the above requirements, if applicable. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating InterLibrary Loan services to rural Alaska libraries, mainly using OCLC Worldshare ILL software.
  • Provide intake, point of contact, basic management of Alaska Remote Resident Digital Library Pilot program, which provides access to the Alaska Digital Library for Alaska residents not eligible for a public library card.
  • Limited reference service to rural Alaska libraries.
  • Coordinate Alaska Talking Book Program.
  • Work with Alaska State Library Information Services team and Alaska State Library Development team in the planning and goal setting of diverse services to Alaska libraries.
