About The Position

The Technical Services Engineer is the technical backbone of BESS Technical Services, applying NEEC’s expertise to customer projects. The role develops technical content for RFQs, researches technical questions, and serves as an escalation point for field engineers and crews. It supports testing and energization, reviews test results, resolves technical problems, and helps develop field leads and technicians. The position is based remotely and requires regular travel to assigned sites for testing, energization, and audits. It reports to the Director of BESS Operations, has no direct reports at hire, and may lead engineers on assigned sites. The engineer provides field support, applies commissioning standards, reviews customer and OEM requirements, and drafts procedures and test documentation for approval. Responsibilities also include leading or supporting energization and performance testing, troubleshooting, training crews, checking test equipment, auditing sites, coordinating with OEM representatives, supporting bids and estimates, and researching technical and standards changes. The role carries significant safety responsibilities, including stop-work authority and enforcing requirements for LOTO, energized work, NFPA 70E approach boundaries, barricades, and battery hazards. Energization or startup must not begin until readiness, LOTO, and protection checks are signed off. The engineer also confirms site staffing and qualifications, reports incidents and near misses, and supports root-cause reviews.
