About The Position

The Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures is seeking an advanced language student to serve as an undergraduate teaching assistant (T.A.) for Spanish. Following a brief training program, the teaching assistant will lead 50-minute drill sessions in the Italian language for first-year students. These T.A. sessions will complement the 3 hours led by the course instructor. The T.A. will lead recitation sessions for groups of no more than 13 students to reinforce material introduced in class by the instructor. The Program is designed to help T.A.s become comfortable in their role and to provide effective drill sessions for first-year students.

Requirements

  • Advanced language student
  • Ability to lead 50-minute drill sessions in Italian
  • Ability to work with groups of no more than 13 students
  • Comfortable presenting drills and maintaining a classroom atmosphere
  • Ability to take attendance and report records
  • Ability to communicate concerns to instructors or program director
  • Must bring original, unexpired, authorized personal identification documents to complete the I-9 form.

Responsibilities

  • Meeting weekly with the course instructor to discuss material to be drilled and coordinate appropriate exercises.
  • Organizing and preparing all exercises to be presented in the drill session.
  • Presenting drills and maintaining a vital classroom atmosphere.
  • Taking attendance at all drill sessions and reporting the attendance record to the course instructor.
  • Communicating any concerns to either the course instructor or Annette Levine, the T.A. Program Director.
