About The Position

Spang Engineered Solutions, a division of Spang & Company, has an opening for a Technical Sales Manager – Railway at its Pittsburgh, PA location. This position will serve assigned established customers in the railway industry through outstanding account management and technical expertise, from proposals, costing, and quotations through delivery of orders. The position will cultivate and grow additional business by strategically communicating the SES value proposition to maximize profitability using cost-plus and market pricing. Spang Engineered Solutions designs and manufactures custom inductive components for an array of industries including renewable energy, solar, medical, aerospace, automotive, and military. Our manufacturing locations include Pittsburgh, PA, Phoenix, AZ, McKinney, TX in the U.S.A., and Xiamen, China. Primary responsibilities include maintaining and strengthening relationships with established and potential customers in Railway Signaling, Positive Train Control, and other railway applications; monitoring ongoing business in a high-mix, low-volume industry to balance changing customer requirements; and coordinating with the Division President and Engineering to develop new opportunities in the railway segment. This role will develop and maintain expertise in railway standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and customer requirements; forecast short- and long-term revenue and gross margin by customers; present Engineered Solutions to customers and follow up to win business; and lead customer kickoff and design review meetings as needed. Additional responsibilities include serving as the primary point of contact throughout project execution; interfacing with manufacturing teams in the U.S. and China; monitoring delivery schedules and project status; hosting customer visits; coordinating with customer service to maintain strong customer relationships; tracking competitive activity, market trends, and emerging technologies to support strategic planning and business development; and reviewing customer complaints and recommending corrective action. Domestic travel is required, up to 40%, with potential international travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electronics Technology
  • 5+ years of experience in Sales, Engineering, or Business Development
  • Preferably in the Railway industry
