About The Position

Now Optics is seeking a Technical Project Manager to own project plans and schedules for its IT team. The role manages 2–3 concurrent technical projects involving teams of 20–40 engineers, connecting product, engineering, business requirements, and operations to deliver commitments on time, on quality, and within scope. The manager leads day-to-day sprint ceremonies and refinement, clears blockers, and develops planning and reporting capabilities toward senior project management and program-level roles. Engineering and product leads own backlog content and technical decisions, with senior team members available to support larger tradeoff decisions. The position is based on-site at the Corporate Support Center in Delray Beach, Florida, and reports to the Director, Portfolio Management & Store Operations. Now Optics operates more than 300 corporate and franchise locations and provides eye care services through its retail brand, Stanton Optical. Its vision is to modernize the eye care experience for all people, and its mission is to make eye care easy. Its stated values are integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect, and empowerment. The Technical Project Manager plans and schedules technical delivery, forecasts engineering capacity, coordinates cross-functional teams and dependencies, manages delivery execution and scope changes, and communicates risks and status. The role works with engineering, product, QA, operations, shared services, and Business Requirements Managers, and supports quarterly planning and a 90-day rolling roadmap.

Requirements

  • Experience building and maintaining project plans, including milestones, dependencies, and timelines.

  • Hands-on experience with a project or work-tracking tool such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or Microsoft Project.
  • A track record of keeping delivery on track while maintaining team health and productivity.
  • Comfort working alongside engineers building REST APIs, modern frontends, and cloud infrastructure; coding is not required, but the ability to follow technical discussions and ask informed questions is expected.
  • Ability to review a technical specification and break it into phased, schedulable work.
  • Willingness to ask questions and respectfully push back when an estimate does not add up.
  • Comfort raising scope, priority, or timeline concerns directly and early.
  • Clear written communication for status updates and planning documents.
  • Ability to translate between engineers, business stakeholders, and leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • CAPM, CSM, or a similar project-management certification; the company will support PMP or SAFe pursuit after hire.
  • Experience with healthcare software, HIPAA, or another regulated environment.
  • Exposure to platform migrations or technical-debt paydown projects.
  • Familiarity with forecasting methods such as burndown analysis.
  • Exposure to infrastructure or DevOps projects alongside product development.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain project plans and schedules covering scope, milestones, dependencies, and release timelines from kickoff through delivery.
  • Update plans as scope, priorities, or capacity changes, and communicate impacts early.
  • Maintain the 90-day rolling roadmap and support quarterly planning with engineering and product leadership.
  • Forecast and allocate capacity across 20–40 engineers working on competing priorities.
  • Track velocity, cycle time, and throughput, and adjust forecasts based on actual team delivery.
  • Flag staffing or capacity gaps to leadership when demand exceeds delivery capacity.
  • Partner with engineering leads on sprint and release planning, keeping acceptance criteria and definition of done clear.
  • Facilitate sprint ceremonies and refinement sessions, and identify and remove blockers daily.
  • Manage scope changes through a clear change-control process.
  • Align product, engineering, QA, operations, and shared services around realistic timelines and tradeoffs.
  • Coordinate multi-team dependencies, including frontend and backend work, infrastructure requirements, and shared-services domain work.
  • Work with Business Requirements Managers to translate clinical and business needs into delivery schedules and surface scope tradeoffs early.
  • Partner with QA leadership on testing capacity and quality gates.
  • Identify technical and organizational risks early, including single points of failure, skill gaps, and capacity constraints.
  • Maintain team health dashboards covering velocity, cycle time, quality, and burnout indicators.
  • Deliver clear weekly and monthly status updates with confidence levels and revised timelines.
  • Facilitate retrospectives and document team improvements.
