Technical Project Manager

VEIR•Woburn, MA
•$130,000 - $150,000

About The Position

The Technical Project Manager drives day-to-day execution of VEIR product development programs in accordance with the Product Development Process. The role builds and maintains detailed cross-functional schedules, tracks deliverables to completion, identifies interdependencies and risks, and keeps Exit Gate deliverables on track. It takes planning and tracking work off functional leads and supports predictable program execution. This is an execution-focused role, not merely a reporting role. The Technical Project Manager is expected to challenge assumptions behind estimates, dates, and readiness claims; bring technical judgment to status assessments; and coordinate cross-functional teams to identify root causes and establish credible recovery plans when tests fail, suppliers slip, or design issues arise. The role also develops contingency options, manages program risks and issues, supports resource and cost forecasting, runs decision-oriented meetings, and drives accountability for commitments. The role supports Commercial Project Managers with engineering deliverable status, hardware readiness, and installation, commissioning, and O&M documentation for customer projects. VEIR is a U.S.-based designer and manufacturer of superconducting power delivery systems, with an initial focus on AI data centers.

Requirements

  • 4–8 years of technical project or program management experience in hardware product development.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining detailed cross-functional schedules and tracking deliverables to closure.
  • Familiarity with phase-gate product development and the deliverables typically required at each gate.
  • Technical fluency across multiple functions, including engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing, sufficient to challenge estimates and readiness claims.
  • An engineering degree or equivalent hands-on technical background.
  • Demonstrated experience driving a cross-functional team to root cause and a recovery plan after a test failure, supplier miss, or schedule slip.
  • Proficiency with project management and tracking tools such as Monday.com, MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, Asana, or similar.
  • Strong communication skills, including concise written updates, effective meetings, and comfort driving accountability across teams.
  • Organized, persistent, and detail-oriented, with sound judgment about which details matter.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with power electronics, low- and medium-voltage systems, cabling, cryogenics, or other complex electromechanical hardware.
  • Prototype-to-production or NPI experience at a hardware startup.
  • Exposure to supply chain or manufacturing planning.

Responsibilities

  • Challenge assumptions behind schedules, estimates, and readiness claims, and verify that plans are credible.
  • Convene cross-functional teams when test failures, supplier slips, or design issues arise; drive root-cause analysis and establish recovery plans with named owners and dates.
  • Develop and pressure-test contingency options alongside the primary plan.
  • Assess supplier and manufacturing readiness rather than accepting claims at face value.
  • Provide status assessments that include risks, judgment, and recommended paths forward.
  • Build and maintain detailed product milestone schedules with engineering, product management, supply chain, manufacturing, and operations leads.
  • Track cross-functional deliverables through completion, including engineering releases, part qualification, procurement, build readiness, test execution, and documentation.
  • Maintain Exit Gate deliverable tracking and drive open items to closure ahead of gate reviews.
  • Run program meetings that produce decisions, owners, and dates, and follow up to ensure closure.
  • Identify cross-functional interdependencies and make them explicit before they cause delays.
  • Surface emerging risks and work with responsible teams on practical mitigation options.
  • Maintain program risk and issue logs and escalate items to the Principal Technical Program Manager with context and a recommended path.
  • Support resource and cost forecasting for engineering, product management, supply chain, manufacturing, and operations deliverables.
  • Produce clear, consistent status reports that distinguish on-track from at-risk items and identify needed decisions.
  • Drive accountability across functions for commitments.
  • Support Commercial Project Managers with engineering deliverable status, hardware readiness, and installation, commissioning, and O&M documentation for customer projects.
