Technical Project Manager - Data Center

Sprout•UNAVAILABLE, UNAVAILABLE

About The Position

Sprout is a global IT hardware retirement provider for hyperscaler and enterprise clients. It combines a nationwide footprint and international partner network with proprietary software to deliver end-to-end IT asset disposition, certified destruction, and responsible recycling solutions. The company is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, with additional operations near Sacramento, Dallas, and Boston. Founded in 2014, Sprout reports average annual growth of more than 50% and emphasizes the values One Sprout, Deliver Excellence, and Integrity Matters. The Technical Project Manager owns datacenter hardware projects across the full asset lifecycle, from initial buildout and infrastructure configuration through steady-state operations handover and end-of-life decommissioning and disposition. This role is the single point of accountability for keeping complex, multi-vendor hardware programs on schedule, within budget, and to specification while coordinating engineering, facilities, supply chain, and vendor teams. It is a delivery-focused position requiring comfort with both project planning and datacenter-floor work, as well as the ability to communicate technical details clearly to stakeholders.

  • Several years of technical project management experience delivering datacenter or IT infrastructure hardware projects.
  • Demonstrated experience across the hardware lifecycle, including datacenter buildout, infrastructure build and configuration, operations handover, and decommissioning and disposition.

Nice To Haves

  • Project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, or CSM.
  • Datacenter or infrastructure credentials such as CDCP/CDCS, ITIL, or relevant vendor certifications from Cisco, Dell, or HPE.
  • Experience with ITAD, data sanitization standards such as NIST 800-88, and environmental or chain-of-custody compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage datacenter buildout projects end to end, including site readiness, rack and power layout, cabling, and network fabric, against defined milestones.
  • Coordinate facilities, engineering, and vendor teams to deliver hardware installation on schedule and to specification.
  • Manage scope, dependencies, and site logistics across concurrent buildout efforts.
  • Drive the build and configuration of compute, storage, and network infrastructure to specification.
  • Manage burn-in, validation, and acceptance testing before production release.
  • Ensure configurations, firmware, and standards are consistent and documented across deployments.
  • Lead the transition of newly deployed infrastructure into steady-state operations.
  • Ensure runbooks, monitoring, documentation, and support ownership are in place before handover.
  • Confirm operations readiness and obtain sign-off from receiving teams.
  • Manage decommissioning of end-of-life hardware, including safe power-down, de-racking, and removal.
  • Oversee data sanitization, asset tracking, and compliant resale, recycling, or destruction.
  • Maintain regulatory and chain-of-custody compliance throughout the disposition process.
  • Build and maintain integrated project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and status reporting across all lifecycle phases.
  • Coordinate vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders, holding each accountable to scope, timeline, and quality.
  • Track hardware assets and maintain accurate lifecycle records in the CMDB or asset management system.
  • Identify risks and dependencies early, drive resolution, and clearly escalate when decisions or trade-offs are needed.
