Technical Product Operations Manager
About The Position
The Scaled Engineering Operations team at General Motors applies human intelligence to difficult problems in autonomous vehicle development, working across Engineering, Product Management, and Business. The team contributes to ADAS technology through products such as annotated datasets for machine learning and pareto development, strategic test creation and management, and structured reviews of critical events and simulations. The Technical Product Operations Manager oversees data products that support rapid, efficient, and safe autonomy operations, with a focus on GM's simulation and testing environment. This is a high-impact individual-contributor role with end-to-end ownership of critical workflows and influence across the team. It combines operational leadership, analytical rigor, technical depth, and execution, with expectations to set quality standards, guide peers, and mentor other individual contributors. Depending on background and business needs, the role may focus on simulation and test quality, issue taxonomy and analysis, or large-scale labeling operations. The role combines operational ownership, program leadership, and technical problem-solving to improve quality, scalability, and trust across core systems. It helps define, measure, and act on data, tests, and issues, influencing the speed, safety, and reliability of advanced vehicle systems.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in consulting, finance, business operations, technology startups, or similarly analytical and strategic environments.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience contributing to strategies and solutions in a complex, rapidly evolving domain, ideally involving data products, operational workflows, or AV-related systems.
- Strong communication skills, including crafting clear summaries, presenting insights, and communicating recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated analytical rigor, including posing data-driven questions, conducting insightful analysis, and developing or improving metrics and KPIs.
- Experience collaborating across teams with differing priorities to drive clarity, shared understanding, and progress.
- Ability to move between strategic thinking and hands-on execution, adapting to evolving needs with sound judgment and emotional intelligence.
- Willingness to ask challenging questions, challenge assumptions, and surface inconsistencies to improve data quality and operational clarity.
- Familiarity with SQL.
Nice To Haves
- At least 5 years of experience in consulting, finance, business operations, technology startups, or similarly analytical and strategic environments.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python for data querying and analysis.
- Experience supporting ADAS, autonomy, robotics, or complex simulation systems.
- Familiarity with machine learning data operations, including labeling workflows, test quality frameworks, or quality control processes.
- Experience managing or working closely with offshore vendors or external partners, including day-to-day operational coordination.
- Comfort acting as a product owner for internal tools, including documenting requirements, prioritizing requests, and influencing roadmaps.
- Experience designing forward-looking strategies in complex, rapidly evolving technical ecosystems, or a strong interest in self-driving technology and its potential.
Responsibilities
- Own the data product supporting simulation and test issue management, ensuring it is accurate, scalable, and aligned with protocol execution needs.
- Maintain and evolve issue categories to support consistent interpretation and high-quality protocol data, collaborating closely with simulation partners.
- Identify gaps, refine issue definitions, and ensure taxonomy items are applied consistently across teams and workflows.
- Support the creation of metrics, dashboards, and analyses that surface trends and inform prioritization and decision-making.
- Contribute to adjacent data products and pilot initiatives across the Scaled Engineering Operations portfolio to improve operational excellence and data reliability.
- Identify and drive process improvements that make simulation and test issue workflows more scalable, efficient, and resilient as the AV software stack evolves.
