Technical Product Manager, AgencyIQ by POLITICO

POLITICO•Arlington, VA
•$125,000 - $135,000

About The Position

POLITICO is seeking an experienced Technical Product Manager to design and deliver tools and features for AgencyIQ by POLITICO, a policy-driven product serving regulatory professionals in the life sciences, food, and chemicals sectors. AgencyIQ combines expert research, data, and software tools. The role will shape the product roadmap and help the team move from customer insight to working solutions faster, spanning product innovation—including AI-driven tools—commercial strategy, and technology execution. The position aims to drive measurable growth in subscriber acquisition, engagement, and retention across both product lines. The successful candidate will be a user-centric product manager who translates research, data, and market insight into roadmaps with measurable business impact. They will conduct customer discovery and hands-on technical work, collaborate with engineers on APIs, data flows, security, and deployment, and create repeatable processes that help colleagues work effectively. The role owns and prioritizes AgencyIQ’s features and workflows, conducts customer and prospect research, and partners with research, commercial, design, and engineering teams. It also establishes repeatable AI-assisted prototyping workflows for product managers, develops templates and documentation with engineering and design, and defines evaluation and review processes for prototypes and AI-enabled features. The Technical Product Manager will build prototypes, coach colleagues, create reusable evaluations, and improve workflows based on user and engineering feedback. The position also scopes and prototypes compliant methods for collecting public regulatory data from government sources in the United States, Europe, Japan, and other jurisdictions. In partnership with research and engineering, it supports data provenance, quality, parsing, change detection, monitoring, and maintainability. The role writes specifications, makes trade-offs clear, coordinates delivery within engineering capacity, and measures shipped features’ impact on customer outcomes.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of product management experience delivering B2B software or data products, with evidence of strong product judgment and measurable customer or business results.
  • Hands-on ability to prototype with modern AI coding tools and working knowledge of code, APIs, databases, and software delivery sufficient to assess output and collaborate credibly with engineers.
  • Experience designing usable product workflows based on interviews, usability tests, feedback, and behavioral data; fluency in product metrics and prioritization.
  • Experience working with engineering on technical requirements, integrations, testing, and release processes.
  • Sound judgment about security, data access, and where human review is necessary.
  • Ability to teach technical practices to colleagues with different backgrounds and communicate decisions clearly to commercial, research, technology, and senior leadership teams.
  • Familiarity with Python or JavaScript, SQL, web data collection, cloud development environments, CI/CD, and API-based integrations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in information services, regulatory intelligence, or another B2B subscription business combining expert content, structured data, and software.
  • Knowledge of public regulatory sources or the needs of regulatory affairs, policy, legal, or scientific users.
  • Knowledge of U.S. capital markets, including public equities and the institutions that trade them.

Responsibilities

  • Own and prioritize the roadmap for AgencyIQ features and workflows, balancing customer value, commercial impact, technical feasibility, and engineering capacity.
  • Interview customers and prospects and analyze product usage, feedback, market developments, and competitors.
  • Translate findings into product requirements, experiments, and defined KPIs.
  • Partner with research, commercial, design, and engineering teams to improve customer acquisition, engagement, expansion, and retention.
  • Design and roll out a repeatable workflow enabling nontechnical product managers to use approved AI coding tools to build and test feature prototypes and data collection tools.
  • Work with POLITICO engineering and design teams to create reusable templates and documentation that meet company standards and connect to POLITICO systems through approved access paths.
  • Align templates and workflows with tooling, policies, and procedures established by engineering and operations teams.
  • Define how prototypes are evaluated with users, reviewed by engineers, and either prepared for release or retired.
  • Build representative prototypes, coach other product managers in the workflow, and improve it based on user difficulties and engineering handoff needs.
  • Create reusable evaluations for prototypes and AI-enabled features using representative regulatory tasks, expected results, and quality thresholds; run them as designs change and use results to guide engineering review and release decisions.
  • Scope and prototype reliable, compliant ways to collect public data from government sources in the United States, Europe, Japan, and other global jurisdictions, using official APIs or structured feeds where available and scraping where appropriate.
  • Partner with research and engineering on source provenance, data quality, parsing, change detection, monitoring, and maintainability.
  • Write clear specifications, make trade-offs visible, coordinate delivery within limited engineering capacity, and measure whether shipped features improve customer outcomes.
