About The Position

Join us and be the driving force behind strengthening strategic information and data-driven decision-making at PAHO. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO), is seeking an energetic, results-driven and service-oriented Technical Officer, Strategic Information (Communicable Diseases) to support the development and strengthening of strategic information systems and promote the use of data to advance disease prevention, control, and elimination across the Region. Under the general supervision of the Director of the Communicable Diseases Prevention, Control and Elimination Department (CDE), and the direct supervision of the Unit Chief, CDE/HT, the selected candidate will: • Provide technical support for the management of strategic information on HIV, STIs, viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis, including data review, validation, and synthesis. • Analyze epidemiological and service delivery data and produce situation analyses to inform programmatic decisions. • Support the development of reports, dashboards, and data products at regional and country levels. • Develop and implement technical cooperation activities to strengthen surveillance, monitoring, and use of data for national planning. • Provide technical assistance to countries to strengthen information systems and monitoring frameworks. • Promote collaboration and integration of strategic information across programs and partners. • Contribute to planning, reporting, and resource mobilization efforts, including work plans and technical documents. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in health science related to the functions of the post from a recognized university.
  • Seven years of combined national and international experience working in infectious diseases epidemiology and public health, with practical experience in surveillance and monitoring of prevention, diagnosis, treatment of HIV/STI and related conditions.
  • Fluency in English or Spanish with a working knowledge of the other language.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use current technology and software, Power BI, Tableau, spreadsheets and presentations, as well as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and management information systems.
  • Other IT skills and knowledge of software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Word are considered essential.
  • Sound knowledge of infectious disease epidemiology and public health interventions, including HIV/STIs, TB, and viral hepatitis.
  • Expertise in epidemiological analysis, monitoring and evaluation, and implementation of public health programs.
  • Strong skills in data analysis, visualization, and dashboard development.
  • Ability to communicate complex data and strategic information effectively to diverse audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree in public health from an accredited university would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Portuguese and/or French would be an asset.
