About The Position

Manage plant technical training and projects for Yeast Technology. Provide yeast technical expertise and support services to the plant site to ensure that yeast technology best practice is embedded and working effectively to produce products consistently to specification. Serve as the bridge between the yeast technology network and the local manufacturing site to ensure best practice is identified, documented, and shared.

Requirements

  • BS in a technical degree – Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biochemical or Bioprocess Engineering, Fermentation Science or Microbiology or similar required.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of manufacturing experience, preferably in the bakers’ yeast, industrial fermentation or pharmaceutical industries.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role within a bakers’ yeast manufacturing facility.
  • SQF Practitioner certified with experience; PCQI Certification
  • Strong oral / written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, prioritization and problem-solving skills.
  • Strategic planning skills and ability to set strategic objectives as well as develop tactical plans.
  • Excellent leadership skills and strong Project Management skills.
  • Microsoft Office including Access and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as YQMS training SME for working closely with Regional Yeast Technology.
  • Fulfill back-up coverage for Quality Manager and SQF Practitioner/PCQI.
  • Support and contribute to Continuous Improvement of plant yeast processes through yeast technology improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership in trouble shooting of fermentation and bakers’ yeast process issues to routinely deliver products that meet or exceed customer expectations at or below budgeted costs.
  • Assist the plant to make the best capital investment decisions providing yeast technology expertise.
  • Effectively implement new product and /or process technologies within the plant, as agreed with the Director of Yeast Technology and/or the global yeast technology network.
  • Effectively develop and implement new fermentation brew protocols where needed, transferring pilot plant or global yeast technology to industrial scale yeast manufacturing.
  • Serve as the plant microbiological contamination SME and provide trouble shooting support to the plant site as needed.
  • Support local Yeast Plant Trials Champion Process Change documentation across the plant site.
  • Actively participate in development of the 5 Year Strategic Plan and 5-year CAPEX program.
  • Assist in the alignment between the Engineering & Operations teams as it relates to yeast technology.
  • Provide technical support to Procurement and yeast plant site management for annual substrate requirements for fermentation, considering total enterprise cost models to drive to lowest cost feasible option without negatively impacting quality or consistency.
  • Ensure delivery of consistent quality yeast products by embedding established yeast technology best practice (specified in the YLMS, YQMS, QPP & SOP’s) into plant site.
  • Serve as YLMS training SME for Quality Control working closely with the Region YLMS SME to ensure YLMS, Good Lab Practices and SOP’s are embedded in the plant.
  • Facilitate internal YLMS compliance audits at the plants against the standards and ensure adequate training of key QC plant personnel.
  • Routinely monitor plant performance to mitigate risk of failures in yeast technology discipline.
  • Ensure timely and effective deployment of support to the plant team when needed.
  • Exceptions to yeast technology standards are promptly and thoroughly investigated, root causes are identified, and corrective actions are both implemented and verified.
  • Provide technical support as needed for customer concerns to investigate, identify root causes and implement corrective actions promptly and thoroughly.
  • Support the team to develop and recommend effective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Work closely with Quality Manager to ensure a consistent approach is maintained.
  • Leveraging the regional yeast technology network, effectively benchmark and share yeast best practices within ABMNA.
  • Working with the Quality Manager, assist the plant to improve quality and integrity of the QA laboratory data to better manage the plant interface with yeast technology, as needed.
  • Working with the Quality Manager, determine and recommend laboratory equipment needs for the plant.
  • Ensure appropriate funding requests during the annual capital planning process.
  • Serve as the YLMS and Laboratory Services Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Assist and support plant Quality where exceptions to Quality Control are indicated.
  • Enable the plant team to proactively manage the yeast process and undertake effective root cause analysis for operational issues by providing training and building yeast technical capability.
  • Develop and deliver yeast technology and technical training within the plant as required.
  • Working in partnership with the Plant Manager, recommend and prioritize yeast technology initiatives by using KPI and performance data effectively.
  • Build effective relationships and foster collaborative sharing of issue resolution and best practice.
  • Comply with all HR policies and procedures.
