About The Position

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Monash University is seeking a dynamic Technical Manager to lead high-quality technical services across Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, and related disciplines. In this pivotal role, you will lead complex engineering activities, develop cutting-edge experimental programs, and provide expert guidance and training to students and staff. You will play a key role in supporting engineering design and research outcomes, while ensuring best-practice standards across operations, safety, and facility management. Working closely with academics, researchers, and technical teams, you’ll help optimise the use of advanced facilities and contribute to future-focused planning aligned with emerging priorities. As a Senior leader, you will champion innovation in technical practices, deliver exceptional service, and provide strategic and operational advice to support the department’s goals. This is a continuing appointment.

Requirements

  • Excellent operational management skills with proven ability to provide authoritative specialist and technical advice
  • Demonstrate expertise in mechanical and electrical design and manufacturing, including CAD modelling, traditional manufacturing techniques such as laser cutting as well as new techniques such as rapid prototyping
  • Responsible for sensor selection, circuit and PCB design, assembly, and microcontroller programming
