About The Position

Join Cisco Mobility Services, part of the Mass-Scale Infrastructure Group, supporting the Cisco IoT Control Center—a cellular connectivity management platform serving more than 300 million connected devices. The organization is responsible for end-to-end engineering and production operations of the platform. In this senior engineering and technical leadership role, you will build the next-generation AIOps and Agentic Operations Platform. You will design and implement AI-powered operational tools and multi-agent systems, contribute to architecture and system design, and partner with architects, SREs, and engineering leads to help global teams operate distributed systems reliably and efficiently. The work includes delivering production-grade AI agents and workflows for infrastructure and SRE operations; designing platform interfaces, tool integrations, and observability pipelines; applying AI/ML, statistical analysis, and causal inference to anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, and incident mitigation; integrating telemetry and operational tools across cloud and on-premises environments; and establishing testing, evaluation, human approval, and deployment safeguards for production agents. You will collaborate with engineering, data science, and operations teams, mentor colleagues, and measure operational improvements such as MTTR reduction and automation efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field and 10+ years of relevant software engineering experience; or a master's degree and 8+ years; or a Ph.D. and 5+ years.
  • 8+ years of experience building, testing, and deploying backend software, operational tooling, or platform services in large-scale distributed environments.
  • Track record of authoring at least three major design proposals or RFCs and leading system design reviews for complex technical implementations.
  • 5+ years of deep proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or Rust, including expertise in concurrency, data structures, and API development.
  • 2+ years of practical experience developing with LLMs, including documented success in prompt engineering, tool/function calling, or moving AI agents from prototype to production.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with modern agent orchestration, semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and standard tool integration interfaces such as MCP or function schemas.
  • Experience with distributed telemetry and data pipelines such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Kafka/Pulsar, Elasticsearch, or vector databases.
  • Practical exposure to SRE practices, CI/CD automation, Kubernetes/container environments, and runbook orchestration.
  • Experience building evaluation benchmarks, structured output validation, or security guardrails for production AI systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deliver production-grade AI agents, multi-agent workflows, and platform capabilities to automate and optimize complex SRE and infrastructure operations.
  • Contribute to architectural reviews, design specifications, and technical trade-off discussions for agentic platform interfaces, tool integration frameworks such as MCP, and observability pipelines.
  • Develop AI-powered operational workflows for real-time anomaly detection, automated root-cause analysis, and proactive incident mitigation, using AI/ML, statistical analysis, and causal inference.
  • Integrate telemetry frameworks, distributed monitoring systems, APIs, and cloud and on-premises environments to provide real-time context for AI systems.
  • Implement automated testing, evaluation harnesses, human-in-the-loop approval gates, and deployment pipelines to support deterministic, safe, and secure agent behavior in production.
  • Collaborate with Principal Engineers, software engineers, data scientists, and operations teams to integrate AI capabilities into core platform workflows.
  • Mentor team members on AI engineering standards and practices.
  • Measure and report operational benchmark gains, MTTR reduction, and automation efficiency to improve agent performance and tool capabilities.
