This opportunity resides with Uncrewed Systems (UxS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Uncrewed Systems comprises unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and autonomy software. HII creates advanced unmanned solutions for defense, marine research and commercial applications. HII Unmanned Systems is seeking an experienced engineer to come join out team! The Enterprise Technical Lead is responsible for leading a cross functional team in the design, development, test, delivery, and support of products within the Program.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance
  • 8 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 6 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 years relevant progressive experience.

  • Experience establishing strategy for technical product development with emphasis on multidisciplinary systems (mechanical, electrical, software, etc.)
  • Experience as project leader/manager including supervision of technical personnel involved in the design and development of complex systems
  • Background with marine systems, robotics, and development/integration of products
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including earned value and risk management
  • Demonstrated excellent customer interfacing and presentation skills
  • Highly skilled providing technical briefings to internal/external customers and company leadership
  • Working experience leading technical definition and change proposal development

  • Experience with Defense contracting environments
  • Some travel is associated with this role to support customer meetings and/or provide technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering leadership, program management, and the customer to ensure product designs are aligned with the program technical vision and meet all requirements.
  • Manage the technical baseline of product within the program, support technical planning, and ensure projects remains within budget and schedule.
  • Establish product development approach for development projects, with emphasis on quality, robustness, and reliability.
  • Resolve cross-discipline technical issues.
  • Provide dotted-line supervision of program technical personnel involved in the design and development of complex systems.
  • Act as the program technical focal point of contact with internal and external customers.
  • Participate in reviews to support reporting of technical, cost, and schedule progress.
  • Support Program and Project Managers in the creation and maintenance of development and production plans and schedules.
  • Act as a mentor to engineering team members on the program.
  • Support continuous improvement through adherence to and improvement of CMMI development processes.
  • Functions as a technical expert who provides management, leadership in the design, development and delivery of technology-enabled applications, products and services within a technical environment.
  • Participate in and provide input into the design, re-design and development of technology products and applications.
  • Contribute to and often lead the specification and design phases of the development life cycle.
  • Manage the design and implementation of new development and enhancement efforts, and coordinate systems installation and software testing with other technologists.
  • Responsible for the overall technical implementation of applications, and frequently interact with internal and external business contacts.
  • Responsible for the technical integrity of projects while providing technical guidance to clients and department staff at the brand, program, and project levels.
  • Functions as day-to-day lead on assigned projects and works with technical leadership to perform evaluations and feasibility reviews of creative concepts and technology solutions.
  • Act as a point of technical escalation and resolution during the project lifecycle as it relates to technical decisions
  • Determine and provide a necessary level of technical documentation during requirements gathering, based on technical services group standards and procedures and discussions with project staff, industry experience, and technical vendors.
  • Assist the technical director with scoping, identification of project deliverables, and creation of project-specific documentation such as functional specifications, technical specifications, etc.
  • Proactively work with producers to ensure that appropriate staffing resources are assigned, put in place, and effectively utilized at the appropriate time.
  • Work with quality assurance resources to create test plans and ensure that issues are properly assigned, fixed, and regressed.
  • Communicate daily regarding project status with appropriate team members.
  • Provide technical consultancy to department staff and participate in business development efforts including proposals, development plans, and presentations, as directed.
