About The Position

This hands-on technical leadership role leads a small engineering team while spending most of the time building and shipping production features in TypeScript and React. The role owns technical decisions and delivery, and manages and develops 2–3 direct reports, including their day-to-day management, growth, and performance, in a lean, AI-forward environment. The role connects strategy and execution by shipping reliable software in a regulated, money-touching domain, setting technical direction and delivery pace for a small team, and helping engineers succeed through close involvement in the work. It is open to remote or hybrid candidates, with an East Coast preference. Hybrid candidates may work from the New York, NY or Charlotte area offices. The person must be able to work Eastern Standard Time hours.

Requirements

  • Recent, substantial TypeScript and React experience personally building and shipping production work within a primarily TypeScript-based stack spanning API services and full-stack web applications.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, leading delivery, and helping engineers grow, along with interest in managing 2–3 direct reports. Extensive management experience is not required.
  • Ability to decompose and sequence work, manage dependencies and risks, and communicate status honestly.
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders; comfort managing up, across, and outward.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a lean operating model, with a bias toward leverage and automation over headcount.
  • Working knowledge of AWS cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD automation.
  • Familiarity with observability/APM and incident-response tooling, and ability to uphold operational and quality standards for a regulated, money-touching product.
  • Fluency with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, or Microsoft Copilot, and ability to use them to increase throughput and reduce toil while maintaining the review and quality bar.
  • Ability to work Eastern Standard Time hours.

  • Own sprint-to-sprint delivery, including planning, prioritization, sequencing, and honest communication of scope, timelines, and risks.
  • Develop direct reports through regular 1:1s, actionable feedback, career-growth conversations, and difficult conversations when needed.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and peer engineering teams to align priorities, resolve dependencies, and translate business goals into deliverable work.
  • Own team health and operational quality, including on-call, incident response, and quality and compliance standards for a regulated, money-touching domain.
  • Champion high-leverage, AI-forward ways of working that raise throughput without compromising quality.
  • Cultivate a collaborative, continuously learning, and inclusive team culture; remove blockers and create conditions for engineers to do their best work.
