About The Position

The Engineering Division of the Public Works Department is seeking a Technical Intern. This position is expected to remain in effect until December 2027. We are looking for someone to Assists professional technical employees in the performance of their duties or performs these duties under close supervision. Makes photocopies and blueprints. Receives instructions from staff members and applies knowledge to work situations. Learns departmental policies, procedures and methods of operation. Assists in collecting and analyzing data, preparing charts and reports. Participates in studies and prepares reports under the supervision of professional staff. Operates a variety of equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic principles and concepts of the academic field related to the department to which the employee is assigned.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical principles.
  • Knowledge of grammar and techniques for the preparation and distribution of information.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of organization and public administration.
  • Knowledge of research techniques.
  • Knowledge of methods of report presentation.
  • Knowledge of report writing.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees.
  • Ability to reason logically, draw sound conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Ability to learn to assist in performing assigned technical functions.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to compose clear and concise reports, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze a variety of technical problems and make sound recommendations.
  • Currently enrolled in a program leading to a degree from an accredited college, university, or equivalent.
  • Some prior relevant experience.
  • Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
