About The Position

Vanguard is seeking a Technical Engineering Manager for API & Cloud Engineering. This role involves owning the coding, testing, and implementation of scalable APIs, microservices, and cloud-native applications. The manager will participate in expert-level system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases, and integrate third-party products. Key responsibilities include hiring, evaluating, and supervising team members, providing guidance and training, setting performance standards, conducting reviews, and making compensation decisions. The role also involves evaluating emerging technologies, recommending solutions to improve performance, scalability, security, and developer productivity, and designing/implementing solutions leveraging AWS services, cloud-native patterns, CI/CD pipelines, and modern engineering practices. The manager will troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis, lead resolution efforts for critical production incidents, and communicate with stakeholders regarding project issues and implications. They will also evaluate the impact of change requests, provide task and cost estimates, contribute to technical decision-making, and establish/promote engineering standards for API development, system integration, observability, and software quality. Support for AI and GenAI technologies to improve engineering effectiveness and business outcomes is also expected.

Requirements

Minimum of eight years related work experience, with at least three years of development experience.
Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience designing, building, and delivering enterprise-scale software solutions and applications.
Minimum of three years of experience as a people leader in a technical capacity.
Experienced with designing, building, and supporting APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
Experienced with developing and deploying cloud-native applications and services in AWS.
Strong proficiency in Java and modern development frameworks.
Experience with enterprise application architecture, system integration, and scalable software design patterns.
Experience applying Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and modern software engineering practices.
Experience with database technologies, performance optimization, application security, and operational best practices.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience with Python development, automation, or scripting.
Experience with API management platforms, event-driven architectures, and messaging technologies.
Experience implementing or integrating AI and GenAI-enabled solutions.

Responsibilities
