About The Position

The Technical Drawing Analyst is responsible for managing and maintaining Whiting Refinery engineering drawings and related technical data to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with site CAD standards, engineering practices, and established procedures. This role serves as a point of contact for all maintenance, project, and TAR drawing and line number requests, overseeing drawing revisions, redlines, check‑in/check‑out controls, metadata updates, and quality assurance through regular CAD audits. The Analyst assists with management of the P&ID Self‑Audit and Redline programs, including field walkdowns, approval tracking and KPIs, and ensures alignment with Whiting CAD and P&ID standards. The role provides guidance to engineers and contractors, supports concurrent engineering activities, and maintains strong collaboration across refinery teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient drawing management.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in IT, Engineering, Management, or Business-related field required.
  • 3 years’ experience in Information Management, or Engineering required
  • 3 years’ experience in using Electronic Document Management System required, ALIM and SharePoint preferred
  • 3 years’ experience in managing engineering documents or drawings required
  • Extensive working knowledge of AutoCAD software with strong knowledge of commands, tools, and functionalities to be able to prepare technical drawings efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of engineering and drafting principles, including dimensioning and standard symbols.
  • Ability to analyze drawing sketches, redlines, and specifications to create and update technical drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate drawing according to standards.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and industry standards.
  • Basic mathematical knowledge to perform calculations related to scaling and dimensioning.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse, cross functional teams and manage complex cross functional relationships.
  • Demonstrates excellent communications and customer service skills.
  • Exhibits aptitude to perform “silent running” activities independently with little supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of Company standard software applications. These applications include MS Office Suite, ALIM, & SharePoint
  • Experience with handling of electronic file formats including DOC, XLS, DWG, DGN, PDF, and TIF. The viewing, printing and plotting as required of these files
  • Ability to understand project requirements and communicate openly and clearly with all members of the team
  • Flexible in handling assignments and schedules

Responsibilities

  • Assists with management of the P&ID Self Audit program, working with Process Engineering to assign drawing packages per unit for walk down, and coordinating TSI drafting resources to update CAD files per Whiting CAD Standards.
  • Responsible for the collection of unit redlines and updates to paper drawings in the unit master books.
  • Follow up with P&ID Tracker overdue approvals to drive efficiency in the P&ID program.
  • Acts as a contact for all maintenance, project, and TAR drawing & line number requests.
  • Manages the check-in and check-out of all master drawings, ensuring revisions are aligned, and any metadata updates in ALIM or SharePoint.
  • Coordinate concurrent engineering where needed with project and TAR teams, maintenance, and refinery departments.
  • Coordinating with TSI drafting and drawing management resources, including delegating CAD and drawing request tasks per service line.
  • Ensures compliance with CAD Standards (WBU GP 08-1000) and P&ID Standards (WBU GP 08-1001).
  • Able to read and interpret all drawing types including P&IDs and piping isometrics.
  • Identify disciplines from drawing descriptions to assign correct codes and maintain the line numbering system.
  • Perform CAD updates, and occasional field verifications/walkdowns.
  • Track KPI’s, P&ID approval status, and report on expired check outs.
  • Audit CAD drawings submitted by the staff and engineering contractors, logging non-conformance alerts, and managing corrective actions.
  • Onboarding of new contractors by providing process training, CAD templates, standards, and managed drawing guides.
  • Possess strong knowledge of the refinery asset units and locations. Including knowledge of the difference between ISBL (Inside Battery Limits) and OSBL (Outside Battery Limits), to properly assign new drawing numbers.
  • Strong knowledge of the line number system.
  • Searching/Scanning/Printing/Plotting when required.
  • Ability to use computer software as required (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, ALIM, SharePoint, PDF Nitro, Scanning software, Printing/Plotting software).
  • Providing internal and external customer service.
