The Technical Development Program is an 18-month rotational program based in Rockford, Illinois, designed to develop technically capable team members who can support Field’s needs across Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain. The position requires in-person training. Participants build knowledge of fasteners, fastening applications, print reading, materials, finishes, quality requirements, sourcing, and customer support through structured training, practical experience, projects, and collaboration with experienced professionals. Fastener expertise or a college degree is not required to get started; a high school diploma or GED is required, and a college degree is preferred. Participants learn Field’s business model, value proposition, customer base, and operational functions while developing skills in mechanical principles, product design, technical drawings, and engineering applications. Rotations focus on Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain; training may also include sourcing, quoting, warehouse operations, VMI, customer support, supplier communication, technical presentations, special projects, and limited regional travel. Participants may take part in customer and supplier visits and meetings as scheduled. After successful completion, participants will have a foundation in fastener knowledge, Field’s business model, and technical problem-solving to support internal teams, customers, and suppliers. Final placement depends on business needs and the individual’s strengths, interests, and performance. Potential roles include Internal Support Engineer, Quality Engineer, Sourcing/Quoting/Supply Chain Analyst, and Application Engineer. Salary depends on the candidate’s current knowledge and potential, internal move type, and final placement after program graduation.
