About The Position

As the Technical Communicator, you will be responsible for providing technical support on Earthmoving Equipment and Engines. This role involves researching systems operations, service magazines, TIBs, and service letters to provide information to technicians, PSSRs, and management. The position also requires troubleshooting assistance, failure analysis reporting, and DSN communications with Caterpillar, technicians, sales representatives, and customers to enhance the service, sales, and reliability of Caterpillar products.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of the Caterpillar Product line, specifically hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems used on Caterpillar machines.
  • Ability to interpret and use test results from Caterpillar software for troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to convey information to Caterpillar so they can understand exactly what type of problems our machines are having.
  • Knowledge of Yancey systems, Sales-Link/Service-Link, for service, parts, and sales functions.
  • Knowledge of MS Office products for report and presentation production.
  • Internet skills for researching products used in Caterpillar repairs.
  • Ability to communicate complicated system problems and solutions to engineers, end users, and technicians.
  • Communication, keyboarding skills, and mechanical aptitude are critical.
  • Ability to learn new processes provided by Cat.
  • High school or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6-years of mechanical or relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist technicians with machine problems and locate technical information for Technicians.
  • Conduct AFA investigations, write up findings, and present them as needed.
  • Provide proactive information regarding known problems, troubleshooting, and insights from T/C teleconferences and Cat DSN.
  • Print schematics for Technicians and customers (billing required for customers).
  • Obtain parts prints from Cat Technical for machining and welding repairs.
  • Identify repetitive problems and find solutions for Caterpillar using DPPM.
  • Manage problems for field follow machines.
  • Actively participate in Dealer Product Problem Management.
  • Collaborate with factory and engineers to resolve performance-related issues on specific machine applications.
  • Provide technical support to customers.
  • Locate parts information not readily available in SIS.
  • Determine if machines are performing to Caterpillar specifications.
  • Identify relevant Service Letters, TIBs, or Service Magazines for customer issues.
  • Attend training and conferences to stay updated on new products.
  • Conduct branch/field visits as needed for hands-on support.
  • Assist warranty clerks in determining repair root causes.
  • Provide support for ET and SIS software to customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including PIP/PSP projects, customer-specific application issues, and customer system operation guides.
