About The Position

The Technical Business Consultant (TBC) is a senior Global Trade Compliance (GTC) domain and solutions expert embedded with a Global Trade Compliance Sales Executive. This is a North American pre-sales role, not a post-sale implementation role. The TBC translates complex compliance requirements into product demonstrations, proof-of-concept exercises, and executive-level presentations that support sales opportunities. The role requires a combination of hands-on trade compliance expertise, technical ability to configure and demonstrate GTC software, and the executive presence to communicate credibly with compliance leaders and C-suite stakeholders. The TBC owns the technical dimension of sales cycles, from discovery and requirements mapping through customized demonstrations, RFP/RFI responses, and technical objection handling. The role involves demonstrating how solutions address customer compliance needs, explaining the relevance of AI to trade compliance, and building custom demo environments for prospect verticals, pain points, and compliance scenarios. The consultant works closely with the Sales Executive on account strategy and contributes technical proposals, solution designs, and business-case narratives.

Requirements

  • 6–8+ years of hands-on global trade compliance experience, either as a practitioner or in technical pre-sales/solutions consulting for a GTC software vendor.
  • Deep technical proficiency with at least one major GTC platform, with demonstrated ability to configure and demonstrate solutions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Foreign Trade Zones, including grantee, operator, and user structures; Customs & Border Protection compliance; Importer of Record obligations; HTS/HS classification; denied-party and sanctioned-entity screening; FTA qualification and rules of origin; duty drawback; and export controls.
  • Knowledge of North American territory coverage and vertical-market dynamics in manufacturing, aerospace and defense, automotive, life sciences, retail/e-commerce, and high tech.
  • Executive presence and polished communication skills for presentations to IT, compliance, and C-suite audiences.
  • A solid foundation in AI and its application to trade compliance, including the ability to explain its value in terms of accuracy, auditability, and regulatory defensibility.
  • Collaborative working style, including close partnership with a Sales Executive and appropriate role boundaries.
  • Strong written communication skills for technical proposals, RFP responses, and proof-of-concept documentation.
  • Experience with modern sales technology such as Gong, Outreach, and Vidyard, and active use of AI tools to increase productivity.
  • Strong preparation habits, including researching accounts and customizing demonstrations to specific verticals and pain points.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical dimension of sales cycles, including discovery, requirements mapping, customized demonstrations, RFP/RFI responses, and technical objection handling.
  • Translate complex compliance workflows and regulatory requirements into structured product demonstrations and solution architectures.
  • Configure, demonstrate, and troubleshoot at least one enterprise Global Trade Compliance platform.
  • Build and deliver custom demo environments tailored to prospect industries, pain points, and compliance scenarios.
  • Present live software demonstrations, technical architecture overviews, and business-case ROI narratives to technical, compliance, and executive audiences.
  • Explain AI applications in trade compliance, including classification automation, denied-party screening, intelligent document processing, duty optimization, and regulatory change monitoring.
  • Partner with the Sales Executive on account strategy, working collaboratively and reinforcing the commercial narrative.
  • Prepare technical proposals, RFP responses, and proof-of-concept documentation.
  • Research prospective accounts and prepare customized demonstrations and presentations.
  • Stay current on CBP regulatory changes, tariff policy shifts, trade agreement developments, and GTC software capabilities.
  • Use modern sales technology and AI tools to increase personal productivity.
