About The Position

The Technical Associate (Part-time, Temp) will assist the Technical Director (TD) in coordinating, administering, and supervising assigned events. This role involves preparing and implementing technical needs prior to each event, including consulting on lighting, audio, video projection, staging, soft goods, and audience seating. The associate will also advise the TD on staffing requirements and scheduling, and set up and run computers, lighting consoles, audio consoles, and video projectors as needed. Additionally, the role requires coordinating with guest artists and event staff to ensure successful production, assessing and fulfilling management needs during events, and ensuring events run successfully within time constraints by coordinating technical staff and prioritizing technical needs. The associate will also coordinate with Front of House staff for timely event openings, manage and organize technical personnel for event operations, communicate inventory availability and potential conflicts to the TD, develop priorities, monitor workflow, and supervise students and professional theater technicians during preparation, run, and strike of productions. This position also participates in the professional development of the department by promoting efficiency and courtesy, monitoring developments in theater technical production, and communicating with the supervisor. Promoting safe and secure working conditions, including proper equipment utilization and immediate notification of unsafe conditions, is also a key responsibility. The role may involve being part of the technical running crew for QCA events and performing other related duties as requested.

Requirements

  • BA in Technical Theatre or 3 years’ experience working in an active Performing Arts Center or Theatrical Roadhouse.
  • working knowledge of video projection systems, lighting consoles, audio consoles and general stage work.
  • working knowledge of Power Point, Vectorworks, QLab and other theatrical/presentation-based software.
  • excellent trouble shooting skills.
  • excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and respectfully with clients, guests and co-workers.

Nice To Haves

  • Stage Management experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Technical Director (TD) in coordinating, administering, and supervising assigned events
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Prepare and implement technical needs prior to each event, including: Consulting with TD on event specific needs (lighting, audio, video projection, staging, soft goods and audience seating…)
  • Advising TD on staffing requirements and scheduling
  • Setting up and running Computers, Lighting Consoles, Audio Consoles and Video Projectors as needed
  • Coordinate with guest artists, and event staff to ensure successful production of events, including: Assess level of management needed for each event’s successful run onstage, and fulfill that role as needed during the event
  • Ensure success of event within existing time restraints by coordinating technical staff and prioritizing the implementation of technical needs as necessary
  • Coordinate with Front of House staff to open doors, and begin event in a timely manner
  • Manage and organize technical personnel to facilitate the successful operation of event
  • Communicate inventory availability and potential conflicts to TD
  • Develop priorities and monitor workflow
  • Supervise students and professional theater technicians to prepare, run, and strike productions
  • Participate in the professional development of the department. This involves: Promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community and consistent with the department’s mission
  • Monitoring development in theater technical production through attendance at workshops and seminars and in the reading of professional literature
  • Communicating with supervisor regarding pertinent departmental matters
  • Promote safe and secure working conditions. This involves: Promoting the proper utilization of equipment and materials
  • Notifying supervisor immediately of any unsafe working conditions
  • Become part of technical running crew for any QCA events as needed
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
