About The Position

As a Technical Application Specialist, you will be the primary point of contact for the design, training, and support of SFM's assigned professional audio and DJ product brands. You will also deliver professional services to our clients. The ideal candidate has strong education and hands-on experience in professional audio systems, including live sound, studio, and networked audio environments. This role requires close collaboration with our Sales divisions, internal teams, customers, and external partners and manufacturers. This role is permanent and can be performed remotely.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in the professional audio market, including live sound, studio recording, DJ systems, and audio post-production environments
  • Advanced technical knowledge of audio signal flow, audio gain structure, sound reinforcement, DSP, paging systems, voice & video over IP standards, soft conferencing applications, audio conference systems, control systems
  • Practical experience configuring and supporting networked audio systems, including multicast/unicast traffic and AV devices on IP networks
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in professional audio roles such as Application Specialist, Audio Engineer, System Designer, or Technical Support Specialist
  • Post-secondary education in Audio, Music Technology, Audio Engineering, Multimedia, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Apple, DAWs (Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Logic Pro), and common professional tools
  • Avid S6L VE110 and VE210 certification, with demonstrated expertise in configuration, operation, and advanced troubleshooting
  • Ability to work with professional acoustic and prediction software including EASE, EAW Resolution, and Electro Voice Preview
  • Strong knowledge of Q SYS design/programming and QSC networked audio systems
  • Experience with Pro Tools for system verification, playback, recording, and integration
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Freshdesk platforms for case management, technical documentation, and customer support workflows
  • Fluency in English and French.
  • The Technical Application Specialist will serve all of Canada; it is therefore essential to be able to provide, at a minimum, support to our clients in both official languages: French and English.
  • The Technical Application Specialist will occasionally need to respond to clients or partners in Spanish to facilitate communication that would otherwise be more difficult in French or English.

  • Manufacturer certifications such as Shure, QSC (Q-SYS), AVID, Pioneer DJ, and related professional audio brands
  • Experience with live sound consoles, studio environments, DJ systems, and digital wireless platform
  • Background in music production, composition, or performance, contributing to strong end-user empathy and real-world application knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Pre-sale services including professional audio system design, equipment selection, product qualification, and alternate product recommendations
  • Create and review audio-focused system documentation, including signal flow diagrams, technical drawings, and bills of materials for Brand Managers and Sales Representatives
  • Support professional audio networking, DSP configuration, and control integration for live sound, studio, and installed sound applications
  • Post-sale services such as assisting customers remotely (phone, e-mail, Web conference) and on occasion directly on-site to provide technical assistance for systems and equipment debugging/troubleshooting (software and hardware)
  • Serve as a key technical contact for assigned professional audio brands, providing expert guidance on setup, optimization, and best practices
  • Project Commissioning
  • Working in collaboration with our Service department as needed
  • Plan, assemble, configure, and program professional audio product demonstrations, including live sound, studio, and DJ solutions, conducted at SFM, customer locations, or trade events
  • Assist Sales Representatives by providing technical product presentations to customers, end-users, or consultants
  • Conduct competitive product analysis within defined timelines, with a focus on professional audio technologies and market trends
  • Stay current on products and technologies through ongoing training, webinars, and industry publications
  • Interact with our manufacturer’s technical services and maintain a professional, courteous, and effective relationship at all time
  • Attend international trade shows in order to receive technical training, meet our manufacturers and customers, assess competitive products, or qualify new business opportunities
