Technical advisor, Applications Development and Database Administration
About The Position
The NRC is Canada's largest research and innovation organization. This role is within the Chief Information Officer Branch (CIOB) and supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of a custom-built Symfony-based Web application called ChemIn-InChim, which serves as the NRC-wide online Chemical Inventory tool. The position involves writing and modifying application code, performing database administration, participating in project activities, advising on new functionalities, creating technical specifications, and producing technical documentation. The Technical Advisor will collaborate with various branches and research centers to clarify requirements and resolve technical issues.
Requirements
- University degree or 3-year college diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, System Engineering, or other related field. An equivalent combination of relevant training and experience may also be considered.
- Recent and significant experience working in a high-pace collaborative development environment based on the LAMP stack technologies.
- Recent and significant experience developing and maintaining large dynamic Web applications using Symfony framework and Doctrine. Experience with other comparable PHP frameworks may also be considered.
- Recent and significant experience developing with Object Oriented PHP.
- Significant experience designing and maintaining MariaDB or MySQL databases.
- Significant experience developing with technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Node.js, Vue.js and SQL/DQL.
- Significant experience using GitLab for code versioning and issue tracking.
- Experience using command line tools in the UNIX/Linux and Windows environments.
- Reliability Status
- English language proficiency.
Nice To Haves
- Understanding SAML authentication and MS Graph API.
- Familiarity with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Responsibilities
- Design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of ChemIn-InChim, a custom-built Symfony-based Web application.
- Write new and modify existing application code following industry standards and best practices.
- Perform database administration tasks.
- Participate in project activities and discussions.
- Advise on approaches for new functionalities.
- Create technical specifications.
- Produce technical documentation.
- Work closely with the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Branch as well as technical specialists, colleagues, senior advisors and staff from the NRC Research Centres, Branches and IRAP to clarify requirements for services and to resolve technical issues.
