About The Position

Under broad direction, the Technical Accounting Manager acts as a key technical accounting partner supporting Cat Financial’s global business, with a focus on US GAAP for complex transactions within Caterpillar’s captive finance subsidiary. The role leads the end-to-end Accounting Review of Legal Documents (ARLD) process, assessing accounting and reporting implications while maintaining strong governance and compliance with US GAAP and SEC requirements. The position requires in-depth knowledge of US GAAP, accounting policies, and practices. It supports accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP, organizational standards, and Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and prepares and/or reviews financial statements, footnote disclosures, and MD&A for SEC filings. The role also provides technical accounting and financial reporting support to global business partners, including analysis of non-standard transactions, implementation of new accounting standards, accounting research, and SEC disclosure support. This is a full-time onsite position at the Nashville main office, five days per week. Relocation is available; visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

Thorough knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, accounting policies, and accounting practices.
Broad understanding of accounting and business processes and systems.
Ability to analyze complex transactions and apply relevant US GAAP to financial reporting and disclosures.
Ability to work independently, research technical accounting topics, and prepare accounting research memos.
Strong communication skills and ability to build trust and lead business partners through accounting implications of complex transactions.
Ability to manage a wide variety of intricate and complex accounting tasks under broad direction.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline with significant accounting coursework.
A minimum of 6 years of exempt accounting experience is recommended.
Ability to work onsite in the Nashville main office five days per week.

Nice To Haves

CPA or CMA designation, or international equivalent.
Public accounting experience, ideally with a Big 4 or similar firm, including exposure to complex audits and financial reporting.
Advanced technical accounting expertise in areas such as CECL, loans and leases, revenue recognition, fair value, and consolidations.
Knowledge of Outlook and Teams.
Knowledge of automation and AI tools.

Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end Accounting Review of Legal Documents (ARLD) process and assess the accounting and reporting implications of legal documents.
Maintain strong governance and compliance with US GAAP and SEC requirements.
Maintain records of organizational financial activity in accordance with GAAP, organizational standards, and Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
Prepare and/or review financial statements, footnote disclosures, and MD&A for SEC filings.
Analyze accounting for non-standard transactions and apply relevant US GAAP to financial reporting and disclosures.
Research US GAAP technical accounting topics and prepare accounting research memos.
Implement new US GAAP accounting standards.
Provide US GAAP technical accounting support to global business partners and guide them through accounting implications of complex transactions.
Assist in reviewing 10-Q and 10-K financials and provide accounting policy and technical accounting support.
Support SEC disclosures and financial reporting.
