About The Position

We are seeking a Technical Accounting Architect to support the design, assessment, and modernization of complex government financial systems. This role serves as the bridge between Accounting, Operations, Product, and Engineering teams, ensuring that financial requirements are accurately translated into system architecture, business processes, transaction workflows, and technical solutions. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in General Ledger (GL) operations, accounting transaction design, reconciliation, auditability, and financial controls. They must be able to work directly with architects, product teams, engineers, and implementation partners to ensure financial systems are designed correctly from the outset and support accurate financial reporting, accounting period integrity, and audit readiness. This role is responsible for ensuring that business events and operational workflows are properly translated into accounting transactions and General Ledger entries. The role ensures alignment of product strategy with client goals, facilitates agile ceremonies and continuous improvement, and provides critical business and functional analysis to deliver high-quality, user-centered solutions. This role will possess the skills to be able to span the domains of product management, scrum leadership, and business analyst at an advanced application level of proficiency. This Consultant role will work on projects that allow them to support agile software development teams and client organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience supporting financial systems, accounting operations, General Ledger management, or financial systems implementations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in: General Ledger Design and Operations, Accounting Transaction Processing, Reconciliation Processes, Debits and Credits, Suspense Account Management, Audit Controls and Traceability, Financial Reporting, Accounting Period Management.
  • Experience translating business and operational processes into accounting transactions and GL requirements.
  • Experience partnering with software development, architecture, or systems implementation teams.
  • Strong understanding of how financial transactions flow through operational systems into the General Ledger.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, CMA, CIA, CGFM, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with government financial systems, tax collection systems, benefits administration platforms, or public sector accounting environments.
  • Experience assessing financial system implementations and identifying accounting architecture gaps.
  • Experience supporting Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) programs.
  • Experience supporting Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax or benefits systems.
  • Experience with Salesforce-based implementations or financial systems built on Salesforce.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce objects, workflows, integrations, reporting, and platform architecture.
  • Understanding of Agile delivery and software development lifecycle practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and validate General Ledger transaction flows, posting logic, account mappings, and reconciliation processes.
  • Define accounting event models and ensure operational workflows are accurately translated into accounting transactions.
  • Review system designs to ensure proper handling of: Debits and Credits, Suspense Accounts, Adjustments and Reversals, Accruals, Accounting Period Management, Reconciliations, Financial Reporting.
  • Ensure transaction integrity, auditability, and traceability throughout the financial transaction lifecycle.
  • Validate that financial system designs align with accounting standards and government reporting requirements.
  • Partner with accounting, operations, product, architecture, and engineering teams to translate financial requirements into system functionality.
  • Facilitate workshops to document business processes and map operational events to accounting treatment and GL entries.
  • Review technical designs, data models, integrations, and workflow configurations to identify accounting risks.
  • Support testing, validation, and defect resolution activities related to financial processing.
  • Identify and challenge accounting, reconciliation, auditability, and financial control risks within technical designs and financial transaction workflows, partnering with architects and engineers to ensure accounting requirements are accurately implemented.
  • Establish GL and financial systems best practices.
  • Define reconciliation, audit, and financial control requirements.
  • Support financial regression testing and release validation activities.
  • Assess implementation risks and provide recommendations for remediation and long-term sustainability.
