About The Position

Saxbys is hiring a part-time Cafe Team Member for its cafe at Radford University, with applications accepted for Fall 2027 and future semesters. The role offers hands-on experience in food and beverage production, community leadership, and hospitality while working with fellow students. Team members help create a welcoming campus cafe and support Saxbys’ mission to “Make Life Better” and its focus on student engagement and empowerment. The position involves engaging guests, learning the full menu, maintaining cafe cleanliness and organization, completing assigned tasks and prep, and contributing to a supportive, fast-paced team. Team members are expected to communicate openly, take initiative, arrive on time in uniform, and uphold Saxbys’ mission and core values. Starting pay is $13 per hour.

Requirements

Exceptional communication skills.
Ability to remember and recall details of a complex menu and operations.
Ability to stand, walk, and smile for extended periods.
Ability to stoop and kneel.
Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 35 pounds.
Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, and ramps.

Nice To Haves

Previous hospitality experience is preferred but not required.
Previous food and beverage experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Engage with cafe guests and create a culture of hospitality.
Understand the full food and beverage menu, suggest items, and answer guest questions.
Manage and resolve guest recovery situations.
Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the cafe.
Complete assigned tasks and preparation efficiently, as directed by the Team Lead and/or Student Cafe Operating Officer (SCOO).
Demonstrate open communication, self-awareness, and initiative to improve cafe operations and atmosphere.
Collaborate with a diverse team in a fast-paced service environment and uphold Saxbys’ mission and core values.
Arrive on time, in uniform, and prepared to work.
Support, exhibit, and promote Saxbys’ mission and core values in daily activities.
