About The Position

The Team Member - Transportation supports the safe and efficient collection, transportation, and handling of donated goods along assigned routes. Working alongside a Driver, this role assists with residential and donation-site pickups, route navigation, loading and unloading donations, and keeping collection sites clean and organized. The position regularly involves handling large, bulky, and irregularly shaped items and requires a strong work ethic, teamwork, attention to safety, and the ability to perform physically demanding work in a fast-paced environment and varying weather conditions. As a frontline representative of America’s Thrift Stores, the Team Member provides exceptional service to donors and community members, promotes the organization’s mission, and helps maintain positive relationships throughout the communities served. The role includes regular travel in a box truck and may involve working indoors and outdoors.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Successfully complete a background check.
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
Ability to maintain accurate records and communicate donation progress.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds, independently or with assistance as appropriate.
Ability to push and pull items weighing up to 70 pounds.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on varied surfaces.
Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive physical movements.
Ability to climb steps, stairs, ramps, and in and out of box trucks and trailers.
Ability to maintain balance and safely handle, move, load, unload, position, and secure donated goods.
Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental and weather conditions.
Sufficient vision, hearing, and communication abilities to perform duties safely and remain aware of hazards.
Ability to work safely around moving vehicles, donation boxes, trailers, loading areas, and collection sites.
Ability to tolerate regular travel in a box truck and remain seated during travel.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Assist the Driver with collecting donations from box sites and donor homes.
Deliver exceptional customer service to donors and customers.
Support the Driver with navigation during routes and pickup operations.
Communicate the organization’s mission and goals to donors and customers.
Foster and maintain positive relationships with donors and the public.
Contribute to the upkeep and management of donation box sites and routes.
Collaborate with the Driver on route development and placement of donation boxes and trailers.
Keep donation sites and routes clean and organized according to company standards.
Help the Driver maintain accurate records and track routes and donations.
Work with the Driver to safely and efficiently load and unload trucks and trailers.
Adapt to working in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and wet environments.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
