About The Position

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, Mining, the Team Leader is responsible for the efficient output, production, and safety of the mine operations team. The incumbent must conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission, vision, and values of the Fort McKay Group of Companies LP. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 3 years of verifiable experience in a supervisory role in an Industrial environment, with relevant experience in a Oil Sands production environment relating to Mining, Civil Construction, and Heavy Equipment Operation.
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Valid AMSA supervisor certificate is required.
  • CSO, BSO certification or combination of CSTS and OSSA is required
  • Heavy Hauler, Excavator, Dozer, Loader and Grader experience is required
  • Ability to follow construction designs is required
  • Current valid Class five (5) drivers license or better with a satisfactory 3 year driving abstract is required
  • Ability to contribute to the administration of policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and the Internet comfortably
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Able to manage a variable sized team with differing shifts, personalities, and performance.
  • Strong conflict resolutions skills, with the ability to collaborate with other groups to mitigate and solve issues that may affect the contract or the Fort McKay Group of Companies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Ceridian Dayforce and/or SAP is considered an asset.
  • A valid NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate daily activities for a team of 25+ operators, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
  • Meet or exceed daily shift/production targets from start to finish, implementing instructions from daily operational plans and priorities.
  • Coordinate with the Shift Supervisor to ensure that staff are competent, fit for duty, and have the required skills and training to carry out daily activities.
  • Ensure that qualified personnel perform tasks requiring authorization, and that equipment is utilized in accordance with the design specifications and correct operating procedures.
  • Work with the Shift Supervisor and Human Resources to manage employee relations issues, with an ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Implement new or revised policies and procedures as assigned by the Supervisor and Operations Manager.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and hazards through regular inspections and behavioral observations.
  • Work with Supervisor, other Team Leads, and HSE department to ensure that standards for safe-working procedures and conditions are observed and followed.
  • Prepare various reports, maintain records, and report activities in a timely manner as required.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field, conducting regular inspections, audits, and ride-along to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with HSE, Operations, and other leadership to uphold and reinforce safe work practices across all job sites.
  • Lead investigations into workplace incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions. Conduct root cause analyses and follow through on corrective actions, while mentoring staff on lessons learned.
  • Support the HSE department with injury management and Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) when required.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate records in a timely and organized manner.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, pre-job briefings, and monthly safety meetings.
  • Review FLRAs as part of daily responsibilities.
  • Contribute to the review process for JSAs, Hazard IDs, and similar documentation. This is a collaborative effort involving Team Leads, employees, HSE, and management, with final updates completed by the HSE Supervisor before approval.
  • Utilize INX software to input and extract relevant information a needed.
  • Stay informed on relevant OH&S legislation, federal/provincial laws, and internal policies to ensure compliance.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture where all employees are encouraged to take ownership of health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Handle general administrative tasks such as filing, scheduling training sessions, and data entry.
  • Support Shift Supervisors with people management such as performance management or leave management as per Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned.
