About The Position

This role involves the day-to-day supervision of employees within a production cell, reporting to a Cell Operations Manager. The Team Leader is responsible for planning, leading, and supervising manufacturing operations to ensure products are manufactured and delivered according to contractual requirements, including quality, procurement regulations, program requirements, cost control, engineering change control, and environmental compliance. The position also entails performing machining operations, operating equipment, overseeing product quality and workmanship, managing assigned program budgets, and implementing lean enterprise principles for continuous improvement. The Team Leader will also determine needs for production tooling upgrades, plan for manpower, monitor production processes, interface with other departments, and support manufacturing budget development. Additionally, the role involves identifying and resolving quality issues, maintaining effective communication, planning manpower based on forecasts, controlling costs through manpower scheduling, overseeing procedure development, maintaining high performance expectations through evaluations and training, conducting performance appraisals, ensuring staff is cross-trained, preparing product quotes, and participating in process improvement efforts. The Team Leader will also ensure workflow coordination with lean activities, support company initiatives like ISO 9000 and SPC, uphold environmental and safety standards, set standards for a safe work environment, prevent damaged goods, provide quality and manufacturing engineering functions, manage contractual data requirements, customer reviews, engineering changes, and non-conforming material. The role includes maintaining visual systems, improving company systems, interviewing, hiring, appraising, and developing department personnel, guiding subordinate group leaders, and supporting the enforcement of standards and policies. Travel may be required, and special projects may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Over 5 years and up to and including 7 years related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day supervision of employees assigned to a production cell.
  • Plan, lead and supervise assigned functions in Manufacturing Operations Team.
  • Manufacture and deliver products in accordance with contractual and other related requirements.
  • Perform a wide range of machining operations, operate equipment and oversee product quality and workmanship.
  • Assign and monitor work within the cell to meet program objectives.
  • Responsible for assigned program budgets, costs to complete and compliance to quality systems requirements and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain metrics that track performance to the requirements in quality, schedule, cost and continued application of lean enterprise.
  • Determine needs and provide justification on production tooling upgrades and changes.
  • Plan for manpower needs and fill deficiencies as needed.
  • Monitor and analyze production process within Team to ensure work orders are followed properly, takt time is being achieved and required paperwork is completed appropriately.
  • Interface with other assembly test and support groups to optimize work and manpower loading.
  • Support the development and control of manufacturing EAC Program budgets.
  • Identify quality issues in production process; assist in the development and implementation of resolution and prevention.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication within and between functional groups/management to address problems and obtain resolution.
  • Plan and determine manpower requirements based on forecasts.
  • Plan and monitor cost control by scheduling appropriate use of manpower through the balancing of production needs with overtime requirements.
  • Oversee the development and revision of assembly and production procedures.
  • Maintain high standard of performance expectations from employees through appropriate evaluations and training.
  • Perform Employee Performance Appraisals and provide input for merit increase.
  • Maintain properly cross-trained staff to support production needs in accordance with company policy.
  • Prepare and complete product quotes and estimates to complete requests.
  • Lead and/or participate in process improvement efforts to address or enhance program quality, cost and scheduling.
  • Assure coordination and integration of workflow with continuous improvement through lean activities.
  • Support Company initiatives including ISO 9000 and Statistical Process Control (SPC) ensuring continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and products.
  • Support all environmental and safety standards.
  • Set standards for a safe work environment and provide leadership in the prevention of damaged goods.
  • Provide quality engineering and manufacturing engineering functions, contractual data requirements list (CDRL) items, periodic customer reviews, engineering change proposals, waivers/deviations, non-conforming material and procurement quality flow-down required to satisfy customer requirements for scheduled shipments.
  • Maintain and monitor visual systems that support the programs, work with support departments to improve Company systems and increase performance.
  • Interview, hire, appraise and develop, if necessary, department personnel in accordance with company policies, federal and state laws.
  • Guide subordinate group leaders in personnel related issues.
  • Maintain adequately trained staff.
  • Aid management in establishing and maintaining departmental procedures for compliance with quality standards, company policy and procedures, ISO standards and contract requirements, etc.
  • Support the enforcement of standards, policies and procedures.
  • Perform special projects and other duties, as assigned.
