About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Team Lead Registered Nurse in the Surgery department. Here, you will maintain working relationships with Orthopedic surgeons, Vendors, and Supply Chain. Must be able to update surgeons’ preferences and able to provide and/or teach in-services to peers. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. Under the direction of the Unit Director of Surgical Services and supervision of the Manager, the Surgical Team Leader functions as the technical expert within a surgical specialty, assuming responsibility for ensuring needed instruments are in working condition, needed supplies are available and needed equipment is operational. Team Leader ensures physician preference cards are current and accurate, reflecting the preferences of the individual surgeons within that specialty. In addition, the Team Leader is responsible for orienting new staff to his/her surgical specialty. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential in this position.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate's (ADN)
  • Must hold a current RN Licensure State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation or valid temporary permit to practice nursing in the State of Illinois
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • CNOR certification, within 2 years of hire
  • 3 Years OR experience
  • Demonstrated expertise within a specified surgical specialty

Responsibilities

  • Reviews cases within his/her specialty for accuracy of scheduled case length as well as ensuring needed supplies are available
  • Supports performance improvement initiatives
  • Deliver care in a financially responsible manner, conserving resources and supporting the budget
  • Comply with cost containment measures by maintaining PAR level for service/specialty
  • Serve as a resource person for surgical specialties about instruments, supplies, and equipment
  • Maintain physician preference cards to ensure the information within preference cards is current and accurate
  • Assists with updating departmental policies and procedures
  • Organizes assigned surgical cases before the case starts
  • Successful completion of Annual Competencies
  • Support and promote customer service initiatives
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities, i.e. uses appropriate channels to constructively communicate concerns, displays a positive image for the department and the organization, and facilitates constructive problem-solving
  • Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, physicians, and management
  • Computer literate
  • Communicate with surgeons regarding future equipment needs
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies and procedures
  • Assist with supervising the performance of duties and responsibilities of staff within his/her designated service specialty(ies)
  • Supports surgical management in the development and implementation of surgical strategic initiatives.
  • Orient new OR staff to his/her surgical specialty
  • Assist with special projects and/or committees as needed
  • Circulate and perform other Surgical Nurse duties
