About The Position

The Ministry of Education and Childcare is responsible for developing and evaluating curriculum; teacher development and certification; supporting students with diverse learning needs; funding and supporting school boards; First Nations, Métis and Inuit and Francophone education; and overseeing basic education policy and regulations. The Child Care Claims Unit is responsible for ensuring accountability and stewardship of public funding provided to licensed child care providers across Alberta. The unit supports the administration and oversight of grant funding programs and helps ensure the effective delivery of affordable, accessible, and high-quality child care services for Alberta families. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting key operational and strategic objectives by planning, coordinating, and executing assigned activities. They will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, provide subject matter expertise, ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, and contribute to continuous process improvements. The role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality results, meeting deadlines, and supporting team and business goals.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following areas: Financial administration, Audit, compliance, or quality assurance activities, Claims processing or payment verification, Grant administration, Program delivery or program administration, Investigations and risk assessment, Customer service in a complex operational environment.
  • Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of: One year of related experience for one year of education; or One year of related education for one year of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading, supervising, coaching, or mentoring staff.
  • Experience conducting post-payment verification, audits, quality assurance reviews, or compliance assessments.
  • Experience investigating payment discrepancies, overpayments, or potential fraud concerns.
  • Experience working with grant-funded programs, public sector administration, or government financial processes.
  • Advanced experience using Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting functions.
  • Experience working with Sharepoint Online as both a working space and records repository
  • Experience preparing reports and recommendations for management decision-making.
  • Experience implementing process improvements or participating in system enhancement and testing initiatives.
  • Strong communication, leadership, stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support pre-payment quality assurance and post-payment verification reviews by assessing provider documentation, claim records, payment information, and related evidence to determine the accuracy of submitted claims and issued payments.
  • Investigation and resolution of complex customer service inquiries and technical issues related to claim, claim payments, claim advance and child registration.
  • Recommending enhancements to the information system and coordinating testing plan and activities for the system.
  • Coordinating, monitoring and reporting on the recovery activities.
  • Providing input on and drafting policy and training products aimed at both internal and external audiences.
  • Supervision of claim payment coordinators, as assigned by the Program Consultant-Claims, from time to time.
