About The Position

Indiana University Health is seeking a Team Lead-Lab Assistant for its Greenbush Lab. The role leads the laboratory team in coordinating general laboratory services, including specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre-analytic specimen processing, waived and moderate-complexity testing, and clerical tasks. The Lead Lab Assistant spends approximately 25% of their time as an ad hoc leader and may be responsible for patient and specimen registration and specimen delivery.

Requirements

• High school graduation or GED equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in a laboratory setting.
• Successfully complete initial and six-month competency assessments for identified testing.
• Successfully complete annual competency assessments for identified testing.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Excellent telephone skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member and leader.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.
• Complex problem-solving skills and ability to discern when to escalate.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related science.
• Two years of laboratory experience.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with laboratory experience, or coursework in biological, chemical, or related science.

Responsibilities

• Lead the laboratory team in coordinating general laboratory services.
• Coordinate specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre-analytic specimen processing, waived testing, moderate-complexity testing, and clerical tasks.
• Perform ad hoc leadership duties for approximately 25% of the role.
• May perform patient and specimen registration and deliver specimens.
• May serve on appropriate committees or projects that contribute to the department’s purpose and essential functions.
