About The Position

Under the supervision of the Production Supervisor, the Fabrication Team Lead is responsible for promoting a safe working environment while supporting and enforcing company policies and mentoring/developing employees on every aspect of production. The primary area of responsibility includes the Press Brakes, Bruck, and Turret area. This role involves developing processes to improve current work practices, reducing waste, making appropriate running decisions to prevent defects and downtime, and performing routine production duties. The Team Lead will also develop a knowledge of the processes to assist operators, conduct shift meetings, communicate employee issues to management, address staffing needs, and work with procurement and inventory teams. They will interpret process sheets and suggest improvements, and must be willing to work split shifts and overtime as required.

Requirements

  • Experience in leading or managing people and addressing difficult situations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • No current discipline on record at written warning level or higher.
  • Four or less absence occurrences under the attendance program.
  • Basic computer skills including Excel, & web-based applications to enter data and write reports regularly and accurately.
  • Ability to learn and understand the PLC operating screen and data output screens.
  • Understand internal customer base (Finishing and Shipping) and external customer base (Customers).
  • Be customer oriented; possess the ability to react to customers’ needs while following company procedures.
  • Must be flexible and be able to respond with a positive attitude to changing demands and conditions.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with many areas of the plant/company during meetings, presentations, and various conversations on and off the floor.
  • Attention to detail and understand/adjusting to minor detail changes.
  • Ability to learn how to operate a forklift and other company vehicles.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior manufacturing, assembly, material movement, or powder coating operations experience preferred.
  • Direct knowledge and demonstrated understanding of Johnstown plant products and processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of metal manufacturing materials, fabrication processes, and machinery preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Train and lead the workforce in the Fabrication areas.
  • Ensure and maintain all manufacturing standards.
  • Ensure work schedules are accomplished and manpower is scheduled accordingly.
  • Develop processes to improve current work practices.
  • Commit to and follow the facility Mission, Vision and Values that support the AWI Operating Principles.
  • Attend and participate in all required company training programs and meetings.
  • Reduce waste by supporting team members' ideas and bringing projects to fruition.
  • Make appropriate running decisions to prevent excessive defects and/or downtime.
  • Perform routine and non-routine repetitive production and/or service duties including operation of specialty machinery, setup of complex tooling and equipment, completion of reports and logs, and follow-up on work schedules.
  • Develop a knowledge of the processes in the area to fill in for operators and be the first point of contact for troubleshooting.
  • Ensure operators maintain accurate records of production and quality.
  • Conduct shift meetings to cover safety, quality, and provide direction and goals.
  • Communicate employee issues to Operations Manager and HR Generalist.
  • Address staffing needs, schedule manpower, and assign work.
  • Work with procurement and inventory teams to schedule and address material issues.
  • Interpret process sheets for workers and make suggestions for improvements.
  • Follow all Company, OSHA Safety, and EPA Environmental Policies.
  • Ensure personal safe behavior and encourage safe behavior in others.
  • Participate in safety related events/trainings/processes.
  • Conform to all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain clean and organized work area.
  • Proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Report any safety/environmental incidents.
  • Complete proper paperwork for incidents, near misses, risk assessments, and other safety related items promptly.
  • Maintain a high level of customer focus in producing quality products and services.
  • Work with various personnel to solve issues on the floor.
  • Ensure that the standards for quality, output, safety etc. are adhered to and improved upon.
  • Troubleshoot issues within knowledge and control.
  • Decide quickly to contact more resources for issues outside of knowledge and control.
  • Support the development of standards for all equipment and processes in the area.
  • Ensure standard recipes are being followed regularly without unrecorded deviations.
  • Understand who to contact when product quality or raw material quality is out of specification.
  • Lead the team in the hold process to prevent the customer from receiving out-of-specification material.
  • Create and/or improve upon standard work processes including Start Up, Shut Down, While Running, Change Overs, Troubleshooting, Downday, Cost.
  • Look for projects or methods to reduce cost without sacrificing quality or safety.
  • Enable employees to participate in or lead projects/events that would improve processes.
  • Drive waste out of operation.
  • Direct the work activities of 8-12 employees.
