Teaching/Research Assistant- only for Mercer DPS students
About The Position
This position is for Mercer DPS students who are either Teaching Assistants (TAs) or Research Assistants (RAs). TAs are expected to dedicate approximately 13 hours per week (or 650 hours per year) to support the Department and College. Responsibilities may include leading laboratories or discussion sessions, delivering limited didactic lectures, assisting professors with classroom activities (grading, proctoring, preparing materials), or supporting departmental needs like animal care, analytical instrumentation, or facility maintenance. RAs will provide laboratory support for projects, which involves planning studies, organizing supplies, conducting Franz cell skin transport studies, running assays for drug or cosmetic molecules, analyzing data, and writing reports. Students can work up to 20 hours per week, contingent on university policies, funding, and maintaining good academic standing. Employment length varies based on need and funding.
Requirements
- Must be full-time graduate students in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Must be making satisfactory progress toward research and academic goals.
- Ability to understand the rationale for studies.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling confidential information/projects.
- Ability to prioritize work and complete assignments accurately, either independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to work from own initiative and/or following direction, policies, or procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provide laboratory or discussion session teaching responsibility.
- Deliver a limited number of didactic lectures per semester.
- Assist professors with classroom activities such as grading, recording, proctoring, and preparation of course materials.
- Assist with departmental needs such as care and maintenance of animals and the animal facility, analytical instrumentation, or department equipment and facilities.
- Provide laboratory support for projects.
- Plan studies and organize supplies.
- Conduct Franz cell skin transport studies.
- Run assays for drug or cosmetic molecules.
- Analyze data.
- Write reports.
