About The Position

The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a non-tenure track, 9-month Teaching Professor position in the Department of Geography and Environmental Planning. The preferred start date is August 2026. Towson University (TU) is a public university located north of Baltimore, Maryland, with over 19,000 students and is part of the University System of Maryland.

Requirements

  • PhD or ABD in Geography
  • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diversity of TU students, faculty, staff, and community.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four courses per semester, primarily Introduction to Physical Geography and/or Introduction to Human Geography.
  • Duties could include one upper division course in the spring within the Department’s offerings matching the candidate’s expertise.
  • Preparing syllabi, lecturing, maintaining course records, evaluating student performance, and holding regular weekly office hours to meet with students.
  • Attend faculty meetings and participate in activities for the promotion of the Department of Geography and Environmental Planning.
