About The Position

The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking applicants for a full-time, fixed-term faculty position in health policy and management. The rank will be Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. This is a 12-month teaching faculty appointment. The selected individual will be an enthusiastic participant in the HPM department community, responsible for teaching a range of health policy and management courses in undergraduate or graduate programs. Potential teaching areas include US Healthcare System and Policy, Healthcare Strategy, Policy Practice, Management, Organizational Behavior, Quality Improvement, Information Management, Human Resources, and Master's Degree culminating experiences. Individuals with professional experience or interest in behavioral health, rural health, long term care, workforce development, and health equity are particularly encouraged to apply. Teaching assignments are flexible and may include courses not listed, based on expertise that complements or expands departmental offerings. This position may also include an administrative program director role. A typical teaching load is 15 credits (5 classes) at 80% FTE or 18 credit hours (6 classes) at 100% FTE per year. The faculty member will be expected to teach in both residential and online executive formats, advise and mentor students, review student products (e.g., deliverables for practicums and Capstone projects, DrPH dissertations), and contribute service to the department, University, and community. This position requires in-person teaching and availability for student mentoring, although some teaching may be evening online courses.

  • Experience in health policy and/or management in health care systems, provider organizations, consulting firms, not-for-profit organizations, government, community, or other health-related settings.
  • Experience teaching or demonstrated potential to teach the courses/content areas listed above in university and/or work settings to students and/or professionals with varying levels of academic preparation and experience.
  • Experience and interest in using teaching methods that emphasize and encourage active learning.
  • Experience and interest in advising and mentoring students or professionals.
  • Experience overseeing projects, practicums and Capstone projects in college and university settings or similar organizations.
  • Experience employing strategies to ensure access to resources and promote student success in a public university setting where students reflect the socioeconomic, racial, religious, and other diverse characteristics across the state.
  • Professional experience or interest in behavioral health, rural health, long term care, workforce development, and health equity.
  • Expertise that complements or expands offerings in the department.

Responsibilities
